With all this hype about the iphone and the blackberry, which one are you guys using? I was just wondering because I currently have the blackberry storm 9530 and running skyscpae's nursing constellation plus and LOVING IT! I used to use the nursing central on my ipaq but the skyscape program came with more like the RN notes and other extras. And also to those who uses blackberry, you guys wanna share the PIN for the BBMessenger so that we can all chat about NS or anything in particular about school?
And by the way, congrats to those who got in for Fall 2009!

hi sweetsmuckers,
I also have the blackberry storm and will be starting nursing school this fall. I have been looking at some of the programs that skyscape has...do you think the $179 is worth it to download the nursing constellation plus?? Also, I was looking at it and it says this is only for a 1 year subscription. I just wanted to know if you really think it is worth it before I choose which programs I am going to download. Thanks!! :nuke:

I am using the Palm Centro. I like it. One of the more important aspects to me was I wanted the Palm software. I was going to get an Iphone until I read what temperature range it worked in. I believe 100 degrees max - that just won't due for the Phoenix area. I think the lower range is 35 degrees which just won't due in northern Arizona.
I use it more more as a PDA than I do a phone. The phone is just a handy application to me.
Hey jke530,
Congrats on getting in. As far as what program to get, it really is up to you. I still have an active subscription with nursing central. But when I got the storm, I looked at downloading skyscapes nursing constellation plus. Why? Because it has all wjat nursing central from unbound has PLUS RNotes, drug calculator, and others. Plus they can crosslink with each other. If you do choose the skyscape, go with the subscription instead of the standard so u save money. But you should look at both before picking one. Let me know what u picked. BTW, I'm typing this on the storm ...lol.

I got accepted into Mesa CC....thanks for all of the info. I will have to take a look at what is on there but that sounds like a pretty good bundle of programs!

Congrats, I was considering getting the i-pod touch to use (personal and for nursing). I just got in advance placement at GCC. I have been told yes we can have them, but not in clinical. (which is where I wanted to use it most). I think most hospitals dont allow them due to HIPPA, if your a student. I would check first before I dove in and could not use it. Just my 2 cents.
Since block 1, we were told that we can use the pda's, blackberries, and so forth AS LONG as we dont take any personal info from the patients chart. Since block 1, they recommended us to use the PDA version of the books so that we dont have to tug them during clinicals. The most I have seen being used (in my school at MCC-Boswell) in my block are blackberries, palm centro, and iphones. Some students choose to just have the books. I guess its personal preference. But we have asked this since block 1. And they told us as long as we didnt take any personal info, then we're good. Even one of the instructors for block 1 at my school recommend having them for clinicals since she uses palm centro herself
But definitely check with your school if you are allowed.

Hey!
I am going into nursing school this fall. I have started to get information regarding PDA's etc.. and I see that you have mentioned the IPod Touch. Does it have the capability of downloading all of the stuff we will need for our clinicals? My school says we can use a PDA type device but I wasn't sure if the IPod Touch had the same capabilities as the IPhone or Blacberry. Can you tell me what you have found out regarding their capabilities? Thanks!

I have an ipod touch and LOVE it as a PDA. There are a bunch of free programs out there are decent if you look in the app store under the health/medical category. The ones i have are epocrates, medical calc (awesome) and Eponyms (basically a medical dictionary) Skyscape has some free stuff which is nice, but if you want the really good apps I would consider looking at some of their apps on their website for what you want/need. I personally wanted a better drug book, so i bought the mosby drug book (you can preview all of the programs on the skyscape website) I got the program for like 45 bucks for a yr, WELL WORTH IT.
godfatherSN. . .thank you for all the info! really appreciate it.
