Just curious what everyone packs to take to work. I'm in a food rut and need some ideas of what other nurses eat to keep them going for 12+ hrs!
I'm not a big eater. When I worked night shift, I ate a good supper (breakfast?) before leaving for work. Then for my 12-hour shift I had coffee, water, sandwich, chips, veggies (usually raw, baby carrots), and maybe a sweet like a cookie, brownie, or several chocolates. I only thing I wanted to do when I got home in the morning was collapse in bed, but I usually ate some yogurt.
Just wanted to bump this thread! I've gotten really bored with the food I bring to work and love reading other ideas here. I find that I don't bring enough food to work to keep me going for 12+ hours. I end up either snacking on junk food at the nurses station or I get so hungry by the time I get home at 8:30pm that I eat everything in sight. The things I typically bring have already been mentioned. I do like to make things like chili in my crockpot... makes plenty of leftovers!
This will sound like a bit of a random combo, but one lunch that I've found that is healthy, filling (and I DON'T say that about everything!) and tasty is Greek yogurt, already-baked sweet potato that that I just heat up in the microwave at work (with a little butter and lots of cinnamon!), some sort of veggie/salad, and a Fiji or Honeycrisp apple.
And I pretty much eat a little PB in some way during my shift :-)
