Inspired by the 'Super Senses' thread, and the hilarious responses.....

What is your nursing super power?

Mine is making babies poop. Especially constipated NICU babies on high-cal formula. I've literally bragged about this skill at family functions.

What is your super power?

This sounds weird but my super hero power is a very sensitive nose. I can smell a UTI a mile away.

I'm just picturing you sitting at the desk, charting. Then, suddenly, you perk up - look around - sniff sniff. Your eyes squint as you look around suspiciously. Somebody on this floor has a bladder infection brewing...but who?? Is it the patient in bed 12? The new admit in bed 17? Or is it your coworker, Janice?!

(Oh, the intrigue!)

I'm just the opposte - luckily only rarely have to cath women - but on the other hand, it would be better if it was more often so that I coud get better at it.

Maybe you could stand out on the sidewalk with one of those signs, eh djh?

You know, I have Nursing Superpowers that I don't want to talk about. I fear that talking about my Secret Nursing Superpowers will cause them to be no more.

Either that, or my True Identity will be revealed and the Administrative Forces of Evil will call me into HR and make me eat Kryptonite!

My superpower is calming hospice patients' families. It just comes naturally. Unfortunately it is also severely draining so while I believe I'd be a skilled hospice nurse, I'd burn out in no time.

I worked Home Health for 30 years. This work was primarily with the elderly. I quickly learned my super power was removing impactions. My company soon nicknamed me "The Super Dooper Pooper Scooper."

My most dreaded treatment was having to draw blood. Needless to say, my teammates quickly learned I would drive anywhere, anytime to trade skills.

I 100% will trade you a disimpaction for a blood draw.

Specializes in PACU, Stepdown, Trauma.

Calming down anxious, nervous patients and their families and bringing down blood pressures.

My kryptonite: technology. The Pyxis freezes when I use it, the PDAs stop working, the computers lock up.... which is funny given that I used to be the technology whiz at my last job!

I give painless injections...99.9% of the time everyone who gets an IM or SC from me asks-"are you done?" They say they feel nothing! If you never believed there is something called "a good hand," after 20+ years, 4 countries, 2 continents, same experience...I believe have it! lol

Specializes in Med-surg, telemetry, oncology, rehab, LTC, ALF.

I'm good at staying calm while the SHTF.

I can also drop a Foley in just about anybody, male or female.

I too will put up with just about anything as long as it's my last 12 hr shift for the week. I will practically be humming and singing as you slam me with admits.

Specializes in Anesthesia, Trauma, Palliative, Tele.

Putting IV's in IV drug users! Did a lot of trauma nursing in inner cities and had to be persistent and creative with finding access.
