What nursing shoes do your recommend?

Published

i'm a new grad starting an operating room internship next week. i really want to protect my feet/legs and invest in a good pair of shoes since i'm going to be on my feet for well pretty much my whole shift.

i dont have any restrictions on what i can/cannot wear so i'm open to all suggestions. i've been looking into possible the nursing birkis - does anyone have them and if so are they as comfortable as they appear to be?

thanks!

christine, rn

ps: ignore my typo in the title! i already submitted it and can't edit it!

Either Crocs, Plogs, or Danskos. Whatever you get, i recommend something that can be cleaned by wiping it off, and zero cloth or laces.

definetley recommend crocs, but like another poster said earlier, don't settle for the knock-offs, get the real thing...there is a big difference.

I can't fit my feet into Dansko's, and Crocs just don't cut it. Brooks tennis shoes with my custum orthotics for me!

i like the crocs but if u have to wear tennis shoes....sketchers are the way to go...u can get them without shoelaces

I've never found a good pair of Sketchers. I have one pair now as my everyday shoes, and in a couple of hours, my feet ache.

I enjoy my Nike walkers.....they are easily covered w/shoe covers (to keep clean) no slipping and sliding if I have to walk very fast or run (unlike clogs) and they are SOOOO COMFY. Whenever I buy a new pair, I buy two: one for work, one for my workout.

Croc's for me. I had a pair or sketchers and have had to wear them once when i forgot the crocs and my calves and feet HURT...never noticed how bad untill i did not have that pain..

Good luck and congratulations on your internship...

I wear Merrell's primo breeze pro and they are very comfortable although you don't get any ankle support like you do with a running shoe. A heart surgeon suggested to me to wear JOBST athletic knee highs with compression (as he did during surgeries) around $14.00/pr. They are wonderful and wash well. You can also get them in a black pattern that you can wear with scrubs or dress pants.

Goretex LOWA mountain shoes for me. waterproof and so much profile on the sole that you'll never slip.

Z-coil sneakers. They look wierd, but they're the only shoes that have cured my foot and back pain.

I have Dansko, Crocs, and Birkenstock. I must admit, the Birkenstocks are the most comfortable for me. :coollook:

I've been a nurse for 8+ years and I'm in my mid-thirties. I have already begun to have foot and knee problems. I wore clogs for years, then when I had to start physical therapy related to chronic knee pain, I learned that for me, those were improperly fitting. PT has taught me that it all depends on the structure of your foot, your natural gait, etc. I now wear Zcoils. I soooo wish I had known about them earlier!! They force you to walk correctly, no matter how your foot is built. They are expensive, but they last a very long time and are worth the investment! Here's the website. Check it out. You'll be glad you did!
