Hello,
I am in my first semester of nursing school and have all of the recommended books for my particular school, but have found that some books outside of those are helping me better. I just bought the "Nurses pocket guide", because i found that it helps me with my care plans. Also today recieved a tip from a graduate nurse going on about how good this book was and that she couldnt live without it. She said is was something like "Brunners" nursing book that ranges from $7-$11, but didnt have any other details on it, anyone know what this lady was talking about? Or any books that you can not live without, that help you with the nursing program/care plans/general info?

Saunders 4th Edition Nclex broken down by system. I needed the practice test questions because I wasn't doing well on tests. I also love how it has a nice summary of each section too that matches nicely with the nursing books the school gave us. This should probably not be used until after Fundamentals. I also love RN Notes pocket guide for clinicals and carrying to study on the go.

My go-to almost everyday book was the Lewis med-surg clinical companion book. My absolute fav!

I haven't used any NCLEX review books yet, but RNotes, Davis' Drug Guide and Nursing Diagnosis Handbook have been LIFESAVERS in clinical and when writing care plans.

Achley's Nursing Diagnosis Handbook and Tucker's as well. Tucker is out of print - can get expensive to find it, but it is wonderful. Both of these books are super helpful when learning to write care plans.

In fundamentals (Fundamentals of Success, Davis Series)
Now:
Med/Surge reviews and rationals, princeton
Saunders NCLEX review book
Med/Surge success, davis series
Psychiatric Success, Davis series
It's probably not necessary to have all of these, but I really do use them all. Some books are better than others for different sections, plus it gives you tons of review questions. The success books are great for just practicing questions, but the other two books are also great for laying out all the information in a condensed format for studying. I bought them all on amazon together for about $135.
