I keep reading from multiple sources that RSV is Droplet and from others Contact precautions. What is the official isolation precaution? Does anyone know? It seems pretty up in the air.
I think it is both, contact and droplet,I found it in Saunders 4 edition. With that said when I had my clinicals in NICU,there was a lot of premature babies with RSV and the nurses were just using gloves and gowns,I did not see any masks:))))))) Dont you just love nursing theory vs.real life!!!!
Adults can get RSV and infect their preemies, and the infected preemies in our department are transferred to Peds. We had a baby last year who had a parent with a cold, became RSV+ and was transferred upstairs.
We give Synagis if preemies stay with us longer than 2 months during RSV season, along with other vaccinations.
Our Peds nurses do mask and gown for RSV patients.
