What does it mean when a job ad says "Must have meditech." Is that computer charting? We still paper chart where I work, and I would like to travel in the future but almost all ads say must have meditech. Please clarify for me. Thanks
As someone in informatics I can tell you that Meditech is, unfortunately, pretty much the only choice for a large hospital/system.
It's not the most user-friendly system out there from what I know of it.
The acronym for this kind of thing is EMR, for "electronic medical record."
When a system is well-implemented and designed it's a pleasure to work with and makes obtaining necessary data a breeze. When it isn't, well....
There are two Meditech versions.Magic is the older version which is not truly GUI and the newer one is Client/Server (referred to as CS often) which is graphical and much easier to use.
I think this is why we may have such a love hate when talking about Meditech.
I bet the people using CS love it.
I must have the CS version.....I love it and will only apply to hospitals that are using Meditech......too many errors the paper way......
just my:twocents:

Because...(**drumroll**), whether CS or Magic, it is easy to contain users data-access, it is easy to audit, it is very easy to "lose" information. There are far better systems available, but they offer far less insulation for administration.
good thread, I just started a new job and they use meditech. I am getting it installed on my laptop now. The client server version. I will have to figure it out myself for the time being, (to research data, I am an outcomes manager)I hope it's user friendly!
Ask a co-worker to take you in the hall, and punch you in the nose, six times, hard & fast, to get in the proper mindset. That will be the high-point of your day with Mediwreck.

We use the CS version and I love it. I've been to another hospital that used the older version and it was terrible. The CS version is much more user friendly.
