=) I am sure I will enjoy it more than LTC where I am hating my job now lol.

Please tell me about your clinic jobs!

Specializes in LTC Family Practice.

I worked rural and I mean RURAL (remote) Family Practice and we had cradle to grave care for a community of 15,000 or so an I loved it.

I start this week orienting. I will get to care for all kinds of populations, urban community health. I'm so excited. Will let you all know how it goes. I have a good feeling about this though.

Specializes in Primary Care.

Okay, JZ_RN... You are almost a week overdue for our "30-day report". Let's hear it -- The good the bad and the ugly!!!:yeah:

Seriously, though - I hope it has been an amazing month for you! I, too am a new grad and am jumping into my first ever nursing job at an "all kinds of populations" type of primary care clinic.

@DogWmn: I bet my clinic is more rural than your clinic! :-) The nearest organized community is about 40 miles away with a population of about 10,000...

It's a start, and I couldn't be more excited!

Well you can read the good, the bad, and the ugly on my other posts. I do enjoy the job more. I have a new respect for clinic nurses, we deal with a lot of BS. I work my behind off but at the end of the day I know I wasn't the one making all decisions like in LTC where the MD is absent 99.9% of the time. I feel like I can do more than pass pills and change dirty beds and deal with alzheimer's. I hate the nasty patients, love the nice ones, and when I go home I'm tired but not depressed. :)

Specializes in Clinical Documentation Specialist, LTC.

I'm so glad to see you are so happy in your clinic job OP. I just left LTC after 17 years and haven't looked back. I love the elderly but the stress is just not worth it. I thank God everyday for what He has done in my life. Like you, I am tired but not depressed. I no longer wake up crying and dreading my job. God is good :)

I am stressed at my job but I don't feel like it will be my fault if harm comes to someone since I'm not the only caregiver around!

Well? You are a year in. How do you like it?

Specializes in Infusion.

I have hope that I will like clinic nursing better too. I am 2 months new to nursing since graduation and I feel like LTC is going to kill me. The aggressive residents are too much...I am getting punched, spit on, yelled at or things thrown at me every single day I work. It's depressing me and I am regretting nursing.

I have hope a clinic will be better.

Specialist offices are more likely to be more hands-on than PCP. I've worked in ENT and allergy/asthma and have lots of hands-on with pts. The ENT had the LPN in the room, handing instruments during the exam and even assisting in minor surgical procedures. Allergy is much more hands-on, we do all the allergy shots and skin testing. PCP and internal medicine may be more phone triage and vitals only. The biggest plus--evenings, weekends, and holidays off!

Would you be able to describe your work setting? i.e age of patients do you do alot of preventive care/referrals/etc.

Can you describe your typical day from the start to the end.

After you describe your job description how do you identify the fit between the description of the role and the specifics of the job description?

What was your orientation process?

What made it easy?

What barriers existed?

What advice can you give a new NP going into internal medicine

Do you have an actual job description of your role possibly on your resume or the posting of the job you applied for?

Do you belong to any formal groups? If so how often do they meet or how do you stay active.

This sounds like a homework assignment. Why not go shadow someone or ask to meet someone in person?

Specializes in Ambulatory, Corrections, SNF, LTC, Rehab.

I work in fast phase out patient clinic, it's part of the hospital as well. I work as Clinical Lead, at first it's very tiring but right now I got a hang of it but later on I got boring now. coz i'm doing the same thing all over again even though it's fun but i feel like i'm loosing my skills. idk. maybe you'll enjoy it :)
