What kind of study area do you have/use???

Published

Hi everyone..... I'm starting my first pre-req in August (anatomy) and I'm thinking of buying a desk to put in our basement bedroom. (we just finished our basement so it's done and cozy)

I figure if nothing else I can put the kids to bed early :yelclap:(my husband will be traveling M-Th) and head downstairs to study in a quiet room without any distractions (tv, computer, etc)

I found a desk at IKEA that I liked and is very cheap.... $49.00... just a table sort of thing... but I really like the idea of having my "own space".... (we have an office but I wouldn't get any privacy there)... ok, I'm rambling now...

Anyway... do you have a sacred place or do you go to the library, or do you just study at the kitchen table?

With my 3 kids, I really need a hide-a-way...:sofahider Any ideas???

I study in my office at home. My husband and I share it. We both have big L-shaped computer desks with a hutch. There is not a tv in there, so I don't have that distraction. There is a couch though and plenty of floor space for moving about. DH is a 3rd year Medical Student, so we both are usually in study mode and can motivate and help each other study. Most of the study rooms at the library have been taken over by Med and Dental students...they practically move into them...put up pictures, leave their books...it's really funny, and I can't study in open public areas, because I get too easily distracted by people walking by and stuff.

Hi :) I also have 3 kids(ages 5,3, and 1) I uusally do my school work on the living room couch and if I am lucky sometimes dh will let me go to the library. Good luck I know hard it can be to get some good study time in when you have kids around.

My computer was moved to the dining room when our daughter dropped out of college and subsequently moved into our guest room/office. (The fact that we no longer pay tuition for her is the main reason that I finally got to go to college, so I'm not compaining!) I do my writing and research there, but move to a more comfortable spot to study. I'll either use the dining room table or curl up on the loveseat in the living room.

However, when I really need to focus, I really need to get away from the t.v. noise. Fortunately, we just finished re-decorating our attic bedroom and it is now my favorite place to escape for some peace and quiet.

OK folks I'm confused :uhoh3:

I just did a google search on Barnes and Noble as I have never heard of them and it came up that it is a bookshop. How can you study at a bookshop?

Sometimes barnes and nobles have a cafe where you can buy coffee and sit at a table and study..I see some students do that..

Barnes and Noble is a large chain of bookstores that has stores across the country. Borders is another one. Some of their larger stores have a cafe within the store where you can sit down, have coffee and donuts while you are reading a paper or magazine. We had a Border's that had one of these in one town where I lived.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I am planning on getting that desk at IKEA just to have a place at home I can escape to, but I think the local library sounds like my best bet. (If I can find a sitter)

I'm just glad to know I don't need something too fancy.... the prices on some of the stuff I saw!!! My computer isn't anything great either.... oh well, I guess I have some time to worry about that! Thanks again!!!

Since I have a laptop and wireless, I study in the den in my big comfy chair. But, I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about them bothering me.

I need total silence to get any kind of productive studying done, so I go to the library at my school to one of the "quiet" floors and study.

I sit on my bed and read.

I have a big desc made from an old door sitting on two filing cabinets that holds my computer and papers quite nicely. But mostly, I'm reading.

A lot of the times I drive to my school's library... There's a classroom downstairs that's almost always empty and I have it to myself. It's like a 20 seat classroom all to myself. Very quiet.

Or I study in my room. But I'm destracted easily, so the library is my best bet.
