Hi everyone..... I'm starting my first pre-req in August (anatomy) and I'm thinking of buying a desk to put in our basement bedroom. (we just finished our basement so it's done and cozy)
I figure if nothing else I can put the kids to bed early :yelclap:(my husband will be traveling M-Th) and head downstairs to study in a quiet room without any distractions (tv, computer, etc)
I found a desk at IKEA that I liked and is very cheap.... $49.00... just a table sort of thing... but I really like the idea of having my "own space".... (we have an office but I wouldn't get any privacy there)... ok, I'm rambling now...
Anyway... do you have a sacred place or do you go to the library, or do you just study at the kitchen table?
With my 3 kids, I really need a hide-a-way...:sofahider Any ideas???
My study area is anywhere I can have a few minutes to read or write. I primarily use the ping pong table turned study area in the garage because at any given moment one of my four kids will need something, so I try to hide from them outside. This doesn't always work, so I wind up reading or studying in the living room while a loud movie is playing.
I am only in pre-req's now....but when I am in NS I will most likely go to the library or the tutoring center for peace and quiet.
I have two smll kids and am so grateful to have an optimum situation. We have a separate garage that is renovated as a (small) home office. I have a desk, a computer and all my nursing books out there. It is off limits to the kids and when they aren't observing that rule (which they usually do) and I really need to study, I sometimes tell them the white lie that I am going to the library or the coffee shop and then sneak back there (I guess they just aren't smart enough to question why I'm leaving the house without shoes on -- heh heh). Of course there is no bathroom back there and once or twice I've had to pee in a jar, but that's a small price to pay...
Also, I found going to school an hour or two before class to study to be really helpful. It is great to go over your notes before a test/quiz and you feel less flustered then hustling to class at the last minute. It's also easier to park if your school is overcrowded like mine.
I have also studied/read after clinicals. Some hospitals have really great libraries. Make sure to check out the library of any hospital you visit to see what it's like.
I've came to the conclusion that studying at home will not be a good idea this semester. Everywhere I go in my house there is some type of distraction. I usually study in my living room, but my kids eventually find me. So for the fall I will study at my school library, or Barnes & Nobel.
I have my computer and an old kitchen table set up in my bedroom, and a filing cabinet and a bookcase, yes it is very crowded
But i need to be able to escape from my kids, i have four of the brats from 14 to 2, so once the little ones are asleep i go in there and hide from the big ones so i can study
I do agree though that the internet can be distracting, especially a certain nursing website
I also must have silence to study, so out in the lounge room is definately out, too darn noisy :trout:
I have my own office which I can finish all my paper works, study my m.a lessons. I have also my own computer which I can use everytime I need a source of info.my phone (a must!!) ;)so that I can receive calls if in case.Set of books which I always use/read.. etc...I'ts not that big,.
I tried to study at home my first semester; it didn't work out so well with my kids interrupting. I found a group study room in the school's library I would reserve for myself and force myself to go out to school in the morning after dropping the kids off at school. Unfortunately, some of my classmates hunted me down there once to ask me a question and then took over my room :angryfire. So, then I moved to Barnes and Noble, but that can get too noisy. I need to scope out a new place for this semester and be very secretive about it!

I study in the living room, the bedroom on the bed, or the Library. I like the library for when I have serious studying to do because I'm forced to concentrate.
