What illnesses are you seeing already?

I've had 5 cases of Strep so far, 4 of pneumonia, and 2 cases of Fifth's...lots of runny noses and coughs as well. Three teachers went home sick on Friday with lost voice and fever. It's going to be a long Winter...

Not technically an illness, but I have seen so. many. concussions.

Word. And once again, the parents all agree the return to learn process trumps the return to play process...UNTIL it affects their #specialsnowflake whose only reason for living is athletics.

A whole lotta strep. XOXO Smooch! lol

Interesting! We haven't had strep going around yet. We began the school year with lots of fevers, coughs, and pneumonia of all things in August! Then pink eye for a couple weeks. Then we had tons of Hand Foot Mouth disease. Like every 2 weeks a new batch of germs. This week so far not much but the kids just had a 4 day weekend. I can only imagine what this winter will bring!

I think everyone is vomiting today:scrying: I've sent so many home already today! Glad it's Friday, so they can all go home and get well!

We had pizza today and the pizzeria is not the best, but they support our school,so... Three with indigestion all eating the pizza. I know, there is not supposed to be bad pizza, but we may have the exception that makes the rule.

Wondering what's your policy on HFMD and Scarlet fever. Anybody would like to share how many days the student stays home and any classroom quarantine procedure in your school?

Thanks!

For hand, foot and mouth-we exclude only if fevered. The thinking is that you're contagious before you know that you have it and can shed the virus for up to 4 weeks after all symptoms are gone, so it doesn't really make sense to exclude for an arbitrary number of days when the contagious period lasts for so long. I've had some kids that were very uncomfortable (large mouth sores and burning hands and feet) that I've sent home simply because they cannot be productive when they are so uncomfortable.

For strep/scarlet fever, they can come back 24 hours after 1st dose does of antibiotics, provided they are feeling well and fever free for 24 hours without the help of antipyretics. In my experience, most of the kiddos miss 3-5 days.
