Just curious what different hospitals do for this week, if anything.
At ours, we usually get one free meal and a token little gift like a calculator or a pen.
Well, I want more than that! Any ideas on how our workplaces can cater to us?:balloons:

Sunny Florida! We have a committee that works really hard all year for Nurses week. I forgot to mention that they also mailed us the names of quite a few (12-14) merchants who are offering discounts to us if we show our ID badges. It's nice to know that they care!
The Health Department where I used to work is throwing a huge party at the end of the week. Each Nurse will be given a Card and a Rose. And each Nurse will be listed in some way at the party for his/her contribution to the community and job title within the Health Department.
The latter portion was my idea because, although I am not a Nurse yet, I want to be because of the Nurses I met and the jobs they do. I figured if others (co-workers) know what I know about the Nurses they work around, they will be impressed too. And the Nurses themselves will feel appreciated!!
Happy Nurses week Nurses! :biggringi

That's sorta what we have had in the past. Unfortunately, this year we have a new CFO and (even after acing a JCAHO Survey) he nixed ALL Nurses' Week activites. We are now combined with hospital week and there will be activities all week for everybody culminating with a "fish fry", but there is nothing to even set aside a special week for Nurses.
I guess it could be worse, we could have had a drawing for a packet of vanilla wafers likle poor Lori in Alabama!
I get a paycheck, benefits, and 30 paid days off a year, amongst other things and for that I'm greatful. So I don't go around acting like an ingrate when they give me my annual token gift for nurses week. I think if nurses are so ingrateful to their hospitals then they should celebrate themselves within their own units or start something themselves rather than whine and complain and cry "gimme gimme gimme I am a nurse for heaven's sake, you should be greatful I show up every day."
We have a week-long celebration where I work, with little things along the way. On nurses day they have an awards banquet where they give out scholarships, excellence awards, and "nurse of the year". I think we're getting a beach towel.
I don't expect much and am quite happy with the acknowledgement they give us for Nurse's Week. I admit I would be preturbed if they did absolutely nothing.
I'm flame proof by the way. LOL
well, my hospital is right in there. We all feel they should appreciate the RNs instead of finding lots of money for the waterfall in the lobby, the gold mirrored elevators and the piano in the lobby. It is a VERY nice place to look at and in a nice area.
But upper management finds little money to appreciate the nurses with. We got a plastic mug with the logo and 4 coupons for a free coke or coffee but only if you bring in the mug and fill it and only for this week. They should be SO thankful that so many great nurses and docs stay there.
a bonus would be heavenly. There is also a "tea" but only for the day staff on Tuesday.
Tweety!....you're flame proof! I loved that! After I read your post, I thought "oh boy, he's asking for it!"....but the flame proof comment....too funny!!
I am in agreement with you. I don't expect much for Nurses Week. I've been a nurse too long to expect much more than a coffee mug, or a beach towel. But I agree, we should celebrate it ourselves.....pride in what we do each day.
We had donuts delivered by the hospital this morning. I work in a hospital based home care agency. But better than that....all of the support staff in our agency brought in a wonderful carry in breakfast! It was great! All the best things to eat for breakfast...a good way to start the day. We had to sit through a JCAHO prep inservice while we were eating, but it was worth it!
One year, my hubby surprised me at work for Nurse's Week. He sent me flowers at work....the card said..."Happy Nurses Week....come home and let's play doctor!" I will never forget that one!
Happy Nurses Week to all of my fellow nurses.....I'm very proud of what I do, even when it feels thankless.....it's a great place to be!
We have to have the cheapest owners EVER... since payday is today, each employee got to draw from a box, if you got a star on your slip of paper then you got one of the 4-packs of vanilla wafers we give to diabetics. Out of 200 employees, there were 20 stars.Hooray.
That's just sad, why even bother?
