What do you HATE to do at work?

Published

Hey

I thought it would be interesting to see what things nurses dread doing. For example, I hate suctioning people, there is something about seeing stuff go thru the suc cath that flips me out. Weird huh? I can take vomitting, poop, blood etc, but when its contained in that suc cath and moving thru to the cannister, I get sick. What about the rest of you?

How about "customer service": the MOST used AND abused two words by our corporate flunkies...followed by the inevitable "metrics"...which, I have already heard, are going to be increased and will be confirmed at our next staff meeting...scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM. :angryfire
Hmmmm...now I am not familiar with "metrics"...can't wait to find out LOL...still trying to stomach "client service lines"........I hear we are changing our hospital name too...from General Hospital to General Motors...more fitting for a factory wouldn't you say? LOL

Where I work, our performance is measured on how many referrals we process a day (it's the quantity, not quality that counts, sort of thing). We live and die by 'em. What a way to make a living. :o

Ill take care of the linen bags, if someone will take the drunk they just brought up that is still sleeping off his 3.4 ETOH content. I cant stand to smell alcohol being metabolized off in someones breath. Makes me physically ill. Gaggg,, spitt,,,, AHRGGGG!!!!!!

I will trade a new trach, id rather fight a confused combative old lady.

The phrase 'customer service' belongs at Kmart.

the number one thing I hate at work is negative coworkers. Gossip, b*tching, griping, complaining... its SO draining, SO inappropriate, SO unfair to patients that can't possibly miss it all the time. The way I look at it is this: WE SIGNED UP FOR THIS. WE WERE NOT DRAFTED. WE MADE CHOICES THAT PUT US HERE. IF YOU ARE MISERABLE, DO US ALL A FAVOR AND MOVE ON.

this forum is okay. THIS is an appropriate place to let off steam. NOT on the clock when you could (and should) be providing patient care!!!

OMG that is so true!! Every time I hear that...I wanna say "people, if I want drama, I turn on "The Young and the Restless" every day at 12:30" LOL

And did you ever notice that the ones who spend at least half the shift b****ing to each other VERY RARELY get out on time...I mean dag...by the time my shift was over my patients were up, dressed, and ready for the day...and people would ask "How come YOU get out on time?" DUH!! It's called "buckling down and gettin to work:angryfire

I hate to write or rewrite policies! I hate it when we are slow and my nurse manager asks "Can you write a policy for ______?" She knows that I would rather pull my eyelashes out one by one than wwrite a policy!:rotfl:

"...My least favorite duty is charting though."

Please, please tell me that all charting, at every hospital in the US is

done via computer nowadays! (Old lady nursing student)

Not where I work!!

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

Uh.......what's computerized charting??

Oh. My. God. This may not be the profession for me. I cannot believe that

chart forms aren't online, to be filled in fast, with spell and grammar checks.

Just a word doc tailored to your hospital. Everyone could READ it. Standard usage. These are still done by HAND? Off to the fainting couch!

Leaving the house to go to work...although the view is great in the daylight! :chuckle
