What is the hardest nursing class?

Published

I am interested to know your hardest class. What did you do to get through it? Please do not use acronyms....not everyone will know what you mean.....Thanks!

I would imagine a million different answers for this question, I think it depends on the person.... for some of my friends, ob was just impossible for them to get their heads around, they thought it was terribly hard, but others including myself LOVED it, and thought it was really easy. It seemed for me like that whole rotation was a vacation, I loved it so much..... but CARDIAC........for me, thats the one I had to work very hard at to grasp.....It happened, but I had to live eat and breath studying cardiac for a while!!!!!

My hardest class so far has been Lifespan II, which is a med/surg class. I got 3 B's on tests in that class. I still managed to pull off an A for the class but I had to dig deep and work hard for it!

Specializes in Rodeo Nursing (Neuro).
Having just graduated with an ADN, my opinion is that Med-Surg I is the most difficult class.

It more than builds on Fundamentals. It seems to be the class that has the hardest material (coming off fundamentals and getting hit with fluid/electrolytes is a little rough) and the tests get harder because you are being taught how to "critically think". The clinicals are challenging too.

I agree. In Fundamentals, I was surprised how easy nursing school was going to be. Two weeks into med-surg, I wondered if I was going to make it. Second semester of med-surg was tough, too, but by then I knew I could do it.

Specializes in Addictions, Corrections, QA/Education.

I hated leadership and management. I HATED it.

Specializes in med-surg/ortho for now.

Definetely nursing research! The prof. makes or breaks the class. We had a prof. that expected you to know everything about it and you were tested on a masters level, not on the bsn level. Of course this prof. is no longer teaching. After I killed myself!! And what bothers me is that research is not a part of the boards.

Specializes in long term care, med-surg, PACU, Pre-Op.

A&P, I took it the last year before they changed it into a 2 semester course, it was horrible crammed in a one semester course, the first semester of Freshman year. That was quite a wake up call, but yeah I made it through, it got better from there. At least A&P was interesting. I am kind embarrassed to say (since nursing research is so important to our profession) but I found nursing research hard because it was boring, not so much the research but the statistics part. I hate statistics it is sometimes like greek to me.

Specializes in Psych.

Statistics, without a doubt. It made me cry, really. As one poster quotes (from Winston Churchill, I believe), "When you find yourself going through hell, keep going" or, words to that effect.

Anything related to philosophy, humanity, and sociology...gosh...they were so difficult.. difficult readings... and moreover marks are all based on papers and long essay type exams...:uhoh3:

What exactly is med/surg? None of the classes in my curriculum are called that. Alot of people complain about that class, however, so I would like to know what you do in that class. Also, which class do you have to do math calculations for? I thought my math days were over!!!!!:angryfire

Med Surg is just nursing of adult's medical and surgical problems. I am curious what they call it in nursing school 2005???Krisssy

Chemistry!!! Chemistry is why I became an LVN instead of an RN..........to avoid that pre-requisite. But now I am back in school for my RN, so I will have to try again. Apparantly I can take Chem A, which is easier than chem 1A, but I will probably still need tutoring. It is funny that the classes I enjoyed most, psych and maternity, were the ones that I enjoyed most.

Specializes in Oncology/BMT/ MICU/ SICU.

Med/Surg in my nursing program is called...Individuals in Situational Crisis.

I had the hardest time with Maternal/Child nursing. And, like HarleyGirl, I can tell you why--I had absolutely NO INTEREST in Maternal/Child nursing.

As one of the oldest students in the class, I got along well with the infamously difficult instructor. I explained my disinterest in the course matter and told her I would always be a geriatric nurse. She said one day one of my patients would have a visit from their family and a grandchild/great-grandchild would choke or be covered in a funny rash. Wouldn't Maternal/Child health come in handy that day?

Okay, I saw her point but still struggled mightily through the semester.

My favorite course was Nursing IV/Endocrine.
