What do you guys during your off-time?

Published

Just curious as to what you all do when you aren't working.

I am in school, church, or volunteering as a firefighter. Every now and then, I get out in the shop with my dad.

How bout you guys?

My days off - Varied. Usually I like to catch up on my sleep, Go out with friends (coffee shop), go dancing at the clubs (trance/hiphop/rap/ raves/moshpits), read, beach, Shop for Louis Vuitton or Prada (aka retail therapy, lol) or just kick it.

Well, after the priorities of time with wife and 3 kids...

It's been 5 years of constant renovating our 1890 Queen Anne home - we're in the middle of gutting/restoring 2 master baths and then all we will have left is the kitchen, slated to take place in spring/summer. We're trying to maintain a historically accurate restoration with the intent of turning it into a B&B.

The remainder of my free time is spent running, cycling & strength training - I started triathlons in 2005, but mainly compete in duathlons now and will be competing this season in AG40-44

Ugh... I lived in the South for 6 years, and STILL hate grits. No amount of salt/pepper/butter, shrimp or cheese can hide the taste. Now BBQ and rot-your-teeth sweet tea.....that's a different story!

I was raised in the south and sometimes we would have grits served for lunch in school. How Southern is that?

I can take them or leave them and am an oatmeal eater now.

I'm a baseball guy, so during the season I'm rooting for the Astros (sometimes also known as the Lastros or the Disastros). Right now enjoying Christmas break from school and doing a lot of reading. I don't do a lot of fiction, but I'm about to tackle The Iowa Baseball Confederacy by W.P. Kinsella, who also wrote Shoeless Joe, which was turned into the movie Field of Dreams.

When school is in session, I'm working FT weekends and then driving up to school two hours away (go up on Mondays, come home Thursdays). After work, studying, and a few thousand posts on Allnurses, I can't even pretend to have much of a social life right now. :p

BTW, I like grits, and I drink a TON of tea, but it has to be unsweetened. I like my coffee and my tea black! And I'm an Indy car guy, but my favorite kind of racing goes on at the greyhound park.

After family and school, I spend a lot of time volunteering with a fire department, fishing, and shooting.

Other than obviously playing on the internet (although I'm at work right now) I play my Xbox or Xbox 360, stare at walls, beat my cat, and eat myself into obesity. I would say I work out in my free time, but I don't really consider waking my sorry carcass up at 5 am (prior to going to work) my free time...it's my sleep time. But I do it so that when I suck down 5000 calories in my meal for that day I can look back and say...wow, I wasn't very productive.

Well, possibly not..but, you know, at least it sounds like you have a plan, and that's the main thing.

OT, but I gotta ask...how long have you lived in WV? And were you in TX prior to WV?

So you are an a$m aggie and an astro fan?...heh...:lol2:

sorry...I'm a Baylor alum and lifelong Cardinal fan so I'm obligated to bust some chops. I'm actually not a Houston hater...cubs on the other hand. In fact after Albert turned out Lidge's lights prior to the Cards ultimately losing the series I rooted for the stros in the WS; although the WSox were so strong that year and moreso during the playoffs, I didn't see anyone beating them.

are you a current ag, working towards your nursing degree in aggieland?

40 years--wow, where'd the time go? Spent my "Wonder Years" in Colorado. Never been to Texas, but I'd like to go to Big Bend to see the birds, someday. Actually, if I had the time and money, right about now wouldn't be bad. Had a little thaw, today, but dang it's cold again, tonight.

I spend my time rooting for the red sox, patriots, celtics, or revolution depending on the season. I play golf and spend time with friends. Lately though, after looking at my post-christmas bank account, all I've done is work. And when I'm not at work I'm sleeping
