What was your GPA when you got accepted into nursing?

Published

Please tell me what school and state.

how long it took you.

did you fail any pre-nursing classes.

Grades are a BIG PART of getting in, but they are NOT 95% of getting in. In MN, lots of programs have placement tests because you can't even tell by grades anymore if someone is going to be a good nursing student. There's lots of cheating in the pre-req courses, people don't do their own work, or they have lenient graders. Or you have the students who take the course 2 or 3 times to get that A. Some schools are getting wise to that, and they're no longer accepting retakes. Meanwhile, you've got someone who got a B or a C and actually understands the material, but maybe had a teacher who grades much harder.

Do your very best the first time you take a course. Really dedicate yourself to getting that A. But if you get a B, or even a C, don't freak out.

take the course 2-3 times?! in my school failing a class is frowned upon and you are OUT.

Our school lets you retake a class up to FIVE times and doesn't bat an eye! It blows my mind that someone who takes A&P FIVE TIMES and finally applies with an A gets precedence over someone who worked their butt off to get a B the first time.

I guess there's something to say for persistence, but I'm not sure I could manage to stay in NS once I was accepted if I had that much trouble in prereqs!

I had a 3.5 going into selection...thankfully. I didn't care enough in high school about GPA, I had a 2.3 or something along those lines back then...glad I finally gave this everything I had and glad I finally found something to be passionate about! :)

Well in terms of pre-reqs, you aren't actually in the program yet. I've seen policies from various schools saying the first grade only counts (you get an F, then an A, the F is what they are going to consider), both grades count (you get an F, then an A, you are averaged to a C), and others that will allow 1 grade replacement (you get an F, then an A, the A counts. If you take the class 3 times, get an F, then a D, then an A, then the D is what will be counted).

I haven't seen cheating in my pre-reqs and although I've gotten an A in every single pre-req, As don't seem that frequent. I've seen Fs in every single pre-req and it is sad to see. Especially from the students that are really trying but they just don't get it.

In my undergrad (not nursing), if you failed a required course twice, you were done unless you petitioned the dean and had a really good reason. Then they would let you take the class again. Otherwise you had to find another major.

My GPA was only a 3.14 when I got in I was put on a waitlist 5 TIMES and my GPA went down a little bit each time. I took A&P 1 over again, we need a 77% for Nursing, I got a 76.7% (it was out of 1000 points and she didn't round up). Anyway, hang in there, work hard, do your BEST, and you will get in!!! I just started the program yesterday, I live in Upstate NY [/quote']

Texas. Traditional BSN program. Point system to rank students who apply. (working on a second bachelors. I have a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry) 3.25 GPA from first degree. I didnt fail any prereqs, but also feel I could have done better with some, but I did most of my prereqs 4+ years ago...younger and cared too much about my social life. :/ just finshed my first semester of nursing classes though and made straight A's. I got into the first school I applied to.

Overall GPA: 3.57

Science GPA: 3.2

Teas: 87

I got into UTC's BSN program. They said it was weighted 75% on overall & science GPA and 25% on the Teas and essay/letters of recommendation.

omg lucky. i live in upstate ny.

I have been accepted into two different programs and am waiting to hear back from the third. I have gone to two different schools, at my local community college, I had a GPA of 3.9 and my current college I have a 3.8. I have not failed a class, nor withdrawn from one. I tend to live and breath every single class I am in. If I have free time, as my kids say, Mommy will be found with her textbooks in hand!
