What was your GPA when you got accepted into nursing?

Published

Please tell me what school and state.

how long it took you.

did you fail any pre-nursing classes.

The school that I'm applying to only goes by GPA also. They don't use entrance exams. Thank goodness. With all this struggling with the TEAS, I'm super relieved and happy!

2.7 = c+ not b-. and some schools here won't accept if you took one biology course more than 2x. and i got a c the third time. so i am screwed. i am just hoping things workout for me.

2.7 = a B- at my school. 2.3 a C+.

I've never seen it any other way but an A is 4.0, a B is 3.0 and a C is 2.0. A - on those would give you -.3 points and a + would give you +3. So a B+ would be 3.3 while a B would be 3.0 and a B- would be 2.7.

The school I'm going to now doesn't do - or + grades so an A is 4.0, a B is 3.0 and a C is 2.0. No + or - options.

3.9 Overall. 4.0 nursing prereqs. Mine is for a NP program in TN though. Quite competitive.

Grades are everything...if not, it makes up 95% whether or not you're gonna get in.

Grades are a BIG PART of getting in, but they are NOT 95% of getting in. In MN, lots of programs have placement tests because you can't even tell by grades anymore if someone is going to be a good nursing student. There's lots of cheating in the pre-req courses, people don't do their own work, or they have lenient graders. Or you have the students who take the course 2 or 3 times to get that A. Some schools are getting wise to that, and they're no longer accepting retakes. Meanwhile, you've got someone who got a B or a C and actually understands the material, but maybe had a teacher who grades much harder.

Do your very best the first time you take a course. Really dedicate yourself to getting that A. But if you get a B, or even a C, don't freak out.

I don't know whether to be offend or not. I worked very hard for my A's none were given to me. I believe everyone should have a chance to become a nurse if they want to but it isn't always the case. Students in my classes received the grade they deserved a b c d or f. Now I don't believe that someone who has B's or C's won't make an outstanding nurse. I believe there are people out there that try their hardest and just aren't A students. But I am a student that makes A's I always have. I just know how to study, along with work and have seven children. I learned to manage myself in the military and love challenges. My point is don't discount students that make As like we did something wrong. Sorry for the rant my feeling were a little hurt.

My advise to students trying to get into nursing school. Find the prefect match for you. If it is GPA base or entrance exam or community service. There are all kinds out there. Everyone has a good chance to get into nursing school. If you get a bad grade take the class over, or better yet, my favorite saying treat every class like a nursing class. No class is more important than any other. Your patient is depending on your knowledge! Don't wait till nursing school to try your best, start from the first class you take. Every class leads you to your goal of nursing school. A B and C students pass nursing school. I wish every student good luck and that you enter nursing school without any trouble!!!

My school has a very direct formula. A scoring system. GPA makes up 1/3 of the points, HESI makes 1/3, and number of completed prereqs makes up the other 1/3. The people with the highest points get a spot.

So GPA was about 33% of what my school looked at :).

However, it's so competitive, everything matters 100%.

But community service and experience don't help anything in my case . And overall GPA only matters because you have to meet the minimum overall gpa or acceptance. Worked for me!

I'm confused. What's the difference between overall GPA and nursing pre reqs GPA? Aren't all the pre reqs that we're taking determined if we get into nursing school? So in that case it's overall because every class counts on us getting into nursing school right? I'm confused

My GPA was only a 3.14 when I got in, I was put on a waitlist 5 TIMES and my GPA went down a little bit each time. I took A&P 1 over again, we need a 77% for Nursing, I got a 76.7% (it was out of 1000 points and she didn't round up). Anyway, hang in there, work hard, do your BEST, and you will get in!!! I just started the program yesterday, I live in Upstate NY

A school will generally list specifically their pre-reqs. I have a 4.0 in my nursing pre-reqs which includes AP1, Micro, Nutrition, Statistics, and Human Development. The school doesn't necessarily care that I got a C in a Calculus class or an A in an advanced Computer Science class (my first BS degree). Many schools will also say that they require a minimum of a 3.0 in the specific nursing pre-reqs.

Boston, MA.

I had a 3.0 in highschool. Was accepted into the school but not into the program right away. Got a 4.0 on nursing prereqs.

Finishing school with a 3.5.. funny how quickly it drops when you start taking nursing courses. haha.
