For nursing students: Once you become a Nurse, which field of nursing would you want to work in??
For nurses: What do you feel is the best and worst place to work in as a nurse... and why?
I'll start it off... When I pass the boards and become a nurse I'd like to work in the I.C.U., Peds, O.R. and maybe E.R.
I work in NICU and love it! Cannot do geriatric, becomes too sad.Would avoid working in a non-unionized facility if at all possible. If I went to work at one, would organize my co-workers to join Nurse Alliance of SEIU!
I would think working with sick babies would be sadder than working with older people who have lived a full life. Just my opinion!
How exciting to read your post! I have been an ICU RN for a year and just accepted a position as a Hemodialysis RN at a major hospital in Maryland.I am really looking forward to the change!
Hi BJZMom.
Be ready for a looooooooong learning curve in dialysis. You will think you're a failure because it takes forever to catch on. Believe me, it's worth it though. Don't give up when you come home for the umpteenth day in a row feeling like you don't know your orifice from your elbow. Just hang in there. You'll get there. Come back and talk to us so we can cheer you on.
Eventually you'll love it. Honest. You just have to go through a pretty long gauntlet first.
Well, I can see I am in the minority here but...worse place...Peds...I can't take the heartache of beautiful dying children, suffering children. Not fair. Second worse place...any place you have to administer Go Lightly..we know that Go Lightly is only named that to convince the patient it is okay to take it...then
watch out because you do anything but Go Lightly..and frankly I don't like cleaning some of those messes.
huh? I'm clueless. What is "Go lightly"?

I would like to work in the ICU after passing my boards and down the road a few years become a CRNA.

LOL just think of the exact oppisite of the phrase "go lightly"....lol...its a laxative:)
So i will be starting my career in the Neuro ICU!:):monkeydance:
:balloons: Best place--OB-hands down! Why? Really, areYa...but ya can't get into OB/LD as a new grad...least not where I'm at...WA
I'd like to go work for my favorite OBGYN in my old home town...lol. Course..I couldn't be his patient anymore but... eh... he's a nice guy and I may find it interesting work.
I also heard that sometimes peds offices can be interesting work if the doc lets you assist/do stuff.
But it's my understanding office jobs are hard to get as a new grad too.
And...I graduate June 3 ... 17 days of school left!!!
:thankya: :yelclap: :mortarboard: :w00t:
