What Do You Hate About Nursing School!

I had an aweful day and need some humor to boost my mood.

O.K. I'll start.

Things I hate ablout nursing school!

When you get to clinical and your patient has been discharged, because you have to start a whole new careplan on a different patient.

When you find art history class difficult because you are trying to use critical thinking on your art exams.

When the ex-nurses aid that you have class with always tries to correct the instructor on every procedure because she "Worked as an aid for two years and that's not how they did it"

Let's vent everyone and try to add a little humor. Sometimes if I don't laugh about these things I just might cry. I'd rather laugh about them and keep some sanity (what little I have left at this point). Oh my goodness listen to me it's only October.

 there wasn't a wait list when I got in. im in 2nd semester right now.

Have you done all your pre-reqs? (ie: A&P, Psychology, Micro, Chem, Math, English, etc?) do those first. Trust me.. alot less stress ;) And Pathophysiology and Pharm ... you usally have to be in the program to take those, but if you can, take those during spring/summer. And know your math... Study hard in Drug Dosage Math Class.. trust me on that one for sure. if you dont pass your Drug test that you have to take each semester, you can't go to clinical.

Thanks SO MUCH for the info jlzoe!

Yes, I have all pre-reqs for the WCC program. It's just a waiting game now on that one.......

As for the EMU program. I think that's my best bet, for now.

I have both English classes, Psych. I still have to take A&P, Organic Chem, Anthropology, Pshch II and a higher level math class.

I don't know what Micro is???

THEN, once I apply, I want to talk to a counselor about what classes I can take at WCC that will transfer to EMU. My mom, in her OT program, COULD have taken all her non-OT classes at WCC, BUT, you need a certain number of credits AT EMU to graduate from there. Make sense?

So, yes, I will be taking ALL the pre-reqs I possibly can! LOL!

At this point, since I don't know "where" I'll be going, I have to be careful and only take things at WCC (because it's cheaper) that will transfer to EMU.

Confused yet? :rotfl:

May I ask, when exactly did you apply? If you are in 2nd semester now, you started in January 2004 right? When did you submit the app? (By the end of which 2 month period...)

And, HOW COME, now, 2 semesters later, there is a 2.5-3 year wait list? THIS IS NUTS!!!!!

Pretty sure they mean Microbiology. What gets me is the pre-reqs sound like my present course loan and I'm IN nursing school!

fear not evrything you could ask for awaits. it will be very challenging, as it should be, but if it were imossible there wouildn't be any nurses would there. be strong in your convictions, and always believe in yourself even when it seems impossible believe me your're right where your supposed to be, and it does get better.

Thank you!

My volunteer coordinator (nurse) at the hospital said that I most likely won't have to wait that long! Yippeeeee! She said people get sick of waiting and drop out, or move to other programs.

I hope that's the case! *fingers crossed!*

Smart aleck people in class that ask STUPID questions that the instructor just went over the material....

Here's the scenario two days ago in a test....

We're 15 minutes into the test. Habitually late student walks in, makes a big distraction by putting down her books, ruffling papers, etc. Finally gets settled down. Her cell phone starts going off, loudly. Does she turn it off? NOOOOO....she looks at it as it continues to ring for approximately 5 minutes, then gets up and walks out to talk on it. Then distracts the class by walking back in. None of the instructors said a word to her. Then, of course, she's the last person taking the test and they tell her that time is up. She complains to someone in the head of the department that she doesn't have enough time to take the test. So instead of disciplining her for her habitual tardiness (not just for tests, but classes and clinical as well), they drop the number of questions on our tests. So each question counts for more points off if you miss it. And you know they aren't going to drop simple questions!:angryfire

So yesterday we have a KILLER test. There's only 50 questions on it because Miss Can't-ever-be-on-time had to whine about not having enough time. We're about 20 minutes into it and one student yells across the auditorium for the teacher to come so she can ask a question. Seems she needed to clarify a typo.... I guess this student couldn't figure out that "gram-megative" was supposed to say "gram-negative". :uhoh3: Then she had to correct another typo, "cortcosteroid" instead of corticosteroid". So naturally that disrupts the whole test. The instructor makes a big deal of announcing the typos and writing it on the board.:angryfire :angryfire

So my pet peeves about nursing school.....

1. Students who try to act like "know-it-alls"

2. Students who are habitually late and disruptive

3. Instructors who don't do anything about the above said students

4. Ungodly amounts of paperwork that have not taught me a thing about nursing and I will never see again in the real world

5. Instructors who put crappy notes on Blackboard, then are too dingy to teach the material, so you have to teach it to yourself

6. Group projects with students who don't pull their own weight

I could go on and on....May 2005 isn't coming soon enough!

LPN 7 years, RN student for 2!

Smart aleck people in class that ask STUPID questions that the instructor JUST went over the material

People that don't recognize a helping hand if it smacked them in the face

Instructor will not review for a test and if he/she does NONE of that on test!!!

Waiting until the last minute to tell class about something that is coming up

WHEW!!!

6 hour lectures....i have 2 this week.
