What Do You Hate About Nursing School!

I had an aweful day and need some humor to boost my mood.

O.K. I'll start.

Things I hate ablout nursing school!

When you get to clinical and your patient has been discharged, because you have to start a whole new careplan on a different patient.

When you find art history class difficult because you are trying to use critical thinking on your art exams.

When the ex-nurses aid that you have class with always tries to correct the instructor on every procedure because she "Worked as an aid for two years and that's not how they did it"

Let's vent everyone and try to add a little humor. Sometimes if I don't laugh about these things I just might cry. I'd rather laugh about them and keep some sanity (what little I have left at this point). Oh my goodness listen to me it's only October.

But after studying certain things over and over, reading about it over and over, hearing it in lecture over and over.... I start to think I have these symptoms! When we did the GI unit, I swore I had some gastro disease, when we did the cancer unit I swore I had some kind of cancer,

LOL this made me ROAR with laughter!! It's sooooooo true!! I even got sick for the first time this year when we were studying the immune system!! Yesterday during mental health I was totally convinced that I had bipolar disorder! This happened all through the semester -- to the point where I was totally freaked when it came time to do reproduction....getting pregnant now is the LAST thing I could handle! lol

Specializes in NICU.

Oh I know it, Kathy! All through my psych classes I thought I had bipolar, panic disorder, dementia, etc! But nope, it was just nursing school making me crazy lol. Yep, the reproduction unit can freak you out too.... especially since Aunt Flo doesn't get along too well with stress!! Makes for an interesting time

1.) all white uniforms. I think we might actually blind people when we walk down the hall.

2.) schedules so crazy that I can't work a full time, part time or any kind of job next semester. So I am forced to take out loans, rack up more debt and force my husband to work crazy hours to accomodate my schedule and to care for our son. (husband refuses to use any kiind of day care)

3.) the insane amount of reading, and the short span of which to do so.

4.) 4 tests in one week.

5.) staying up until 2 am studying. Waking up with my 14 month old at 7:30 am, cleaning, feeding son, getting a shower, studying and maybe eat breakfast all before 11:30 am, drive 40 min to work, go to work from 1-5pm, in class until 7 or 9pm, up until 2 am studying... do not rinse, just repeat....

6.) showing non-studying classmates how to do procedures, and not checking off myself until the last minute...

7.) hearing that students currently in Acute Care Classes are loosing hair, having strokes and A students are failing tests

May I ask what school you are attending? I work in Ann Arbor, live in Whitmore Lake!

I am putting myself on the waiting list at WCC (2.5+ year waiting list!!!!), and taking my pre-reqs to be able to apply at EMU in May 2006.

You're scaring me! :uhoh21:

Cool! I am submitting my application by November 30th, the next "two month period" end date. I will be put on the rolling wait list. I was told that there is AT LEAST a 2.5 year wait. :o

I also am taking 5 pre reqs that I need for EMU. Will apply for their BSN program in May of 2006.

*sigh* SO FAR AWAY!!!

I am impatient--and need things done NOW!

:rotfl:

Yeah right..............

 there wasn't a wait list when I got in. im in 2nd semester right now.

Have you done all your pre-reqs? (ie: A&P, Psychology, Micro, Chem, Math, English, etc?) do those first. Trust me.. alot less stress ;) And Pathophysiology and Pharm ... you usally have to be in the program to take those, but if you can, take those during spring/summer. And know your math... Study hard in Drug Dosage Math Class.. trust me on that one for sure. if you dont pass your Drug test that you have to take each semester, you can't go to clinical.
