Since my A&P class this semester does not include lab, what exactly do you do in Lab with A&P 1 and A&P 2?

I do not have a clue what you need to do in the lab part.

Thanks for you replies and help!!

Blessings to all.

:) . they handed us a whole cat in a bag, we even had to skin it.

:yeahthat: and another "new" cat second semester. It took a while before I wanted a cat for a pet again.

you were a lucky ducky.. we had to use the same cat both semesters!:barf01:

I remember that the exam on bones consisted of various bones placed atop tables with number tags on the bones. You had to either name the bone or the aspect (condyle, for instance). Harder when they are not on a skeleton, especially in A&P1. Identification of slides made up a large portion of the lab as well. I thought it was fun.

Yep, we had a cat in a bag... same cat, both semesters. But it wasn't bad. We learned so much; as another poster said, you'd be surprised at the internal similarities between the cat and the human.

As a cat lover, I thought I'd have a lot of trouble, but I didn't. You have to be open to the idea that this is a learning experience, and it's really kind of cool to see and manipulate and reflect the organs you've studied. It's not gross or messy, or bloody. The cats are euthanized humanely; they're not suffering. And as someone else posted, we learned to be really grateful for the opportunity.

That doesn't mean I want to do it again...

Geez. In my A&P lab we just sat around studying the models (playing with them ;)), looking at the charts, and disecting a couple things. We only disected a sheep's brain, a sheep's heart and a cow's eyeball. Lab was really quite social, not much work involved.

A&P I - we looked at slides and bones. We then had a test on each and had to tell which slide was which and the names of the bones and what side of the body they were from.

A&P II - we dissected a cat. It was pretty interesting. I did feel bad for the cats though. We also looked at lots of slides and had to take a test on them.

In My A&P labs, we had cadavers and we learned everything physical about the human body that can be shown on a cadaver. Bones, Muscles (origins, insertions, function), organs (and function), nerves, blood vessels, etc....

For those of you who worked on cadavers, did you go to a University with a hospital? Did you go to a community college? I'm thinking that the community colleges are the ones with the cats and the universities with the hospitals get to work on cadavers.

I go to a university, but not one that is associated with a hospital. My university is actually a commuter campus, and I do not know that the main campus has cadavers for their A&P.

I attend a community college. I will be taking A/P I this summer, and our school does have cadavers on campus that we will be studying.
