What Do Nurses Want?

Would you use card, dice, or board games to learn medical based information? For example, lab values, ACLS protocol, radiology reads? If so, what kind of topics would be most valuable to you and what type of game format best appeals to you? I really appreciate your feedback!

Call me old fashioned, but I would with a textbook. Phone apps can be helpful too.

I've "played" CEN Jeopardy! at work, I had a board game that had, supposedly, NCLEX-style questions. Quite frankly, I did not get any benefit from either. Maybe it can help someone, but I can't envision learning a whole lot from a dice game. JMHO

I think there might be some beginner-level students who would be interested in that kind of learning games. But the experienced nurses that I work with find such things too basic. Both the game and the information it taught have to be fairly sophisticated to be of much interest to experienced nurses -- e.g. involving complex scenarios, advanced factual knowledge, etc.

Would you use ...board games

Working at Wrongway Regional Medical Center is a board game:

A little over a year ago, I experienced several different situations where a doctor, security guards, an agency nurse, and a tech were involved in inappropriate actions involving patients. These included, respectively, possible medicare fraud, not following policy and procedure, patient neglect/abuse, and insubordination.

I objectively documented each specific situation, informing both the unit supervisor and department head. These ares of concern were documented with the appropriate administrative staff informed, but were never acknowledged nor addressed.

I was called to HR sometime later, after working three 12 hour MN shifts, to meet with the HR head and the department head to be written up for my inadvertent failure to complete a redundant, superfluous form.
