What Cha Got Planned For Nurse's Week?

Published

Ok, since I collect vintage items, have noticed a flurry of activity surrounding nursing gear these past few weeks, especially caps. As it is the wrong season for Holloween, that can only mean one thing. *LOL*

What is everyone doing for Nurse's Week?

Specializes in ER/Geriatrics.

took the week off

going on a trip

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Back to school for year 2 tomorrow (monday).. yayyyy

Specializes in LTC.

I may get me a free cinnabun that they give to nurses on nurses week

Enjoy my residents and give them quality care

Well, I *did* order a cap. And am trying to figure out how to get it to stay on.

And I ordered each of my regular floor nurses a tote:

On Wed we get to spend our half hour lunch going to different departments for food, and of course we also have to bring something. We are doing appitizers, the ED (a floor below us) main dish, SICU and PACU desserts. While I understand the idea of meeting people from other areas I really don't see much fun happening here. Plus the OR mostly works 8's while everyone else in the hospital works 12's, we start eating at 1100..... Don't get me started.

To the OP...where do you find vintage nurse items? I was planning on doing my spare bedroom with nurse items but all I can find is new stuff.......

Specializes in ER, Oncology, Preop, Recovery.

Where I work it is no longer Nurse's Week. It is now called "Hospital Week"

I guess we are not special enough for our own week anymore. We do get free pizza and ice cream, however, which sounds tasty.

I ain't telling cause things are hard enough as it tis! :D:D

Usual places, thrifts, estate sales, Craigslist, and of course eBay, though maybe because of upcoming Nurse's Week, lately things have been bid up high.Usually it is only around Holloween that unifoms and caps become a "hot" item.

For all the talk against whites and caps, someone out there is buying up the lot of them!

Tend not to be a very good collector though. Many times I win something only to get an email message with a story from a nurse, mother of a nursing student, daughter of a nurse, and so forth going on about how they wanted and or needed the item for a special purpose, and always being the fool to myself that I am, I relent and let the thing go.

I collect and restore vintage linens, so on that score do have an edge up on certain things. Use older nursing caps as practice on long ago ironing and starching techniques. You never know, if the things do make a comeback may open up a "nurses hand laundry" business! ;)

You need a "sull patch" to keep it on...fold a tissue into about sixths, boby pin it to the top back of your head, put in more bobypins, attatching the top of them to the back of cap, other side of pin slips under patch....

I have a feeling I'll wear it once.

Thanks!

It is like most other things, once you've got it down pat things aren't that difficult.Happily IIRC, your school didn't have a cap, and no one is forcing you into one, you can "shop around" til you find one that "fits". *LOL*Long as you don't step on any toes and wear a cap you aren't entitled to, the world is your oyster. For next time, keep your eyes peeled for the vintage caps with a little loop in front to aid in pinning down. Or, look for one of the organza/tulle types, which IMHO are easier to deal with. Just do *not* whatever you do, wear a Bellevue Hospital cap. There are more than a few grads of that program still around and they kind of get *testy* about things like that. *LOL*

But I want a big organza muffin head!
