I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

It looks like California is going to get slammed again. Although our Winter has been a bit gloomy, and more snow than usual, at least we've avoided flooding.

Too bad they don't recover more of that moisture for use when they have so much drought in the state.

What's to discuss?. There was a joke and you didn't like it. What else am I supposed to say? You want me to explain the joke to you? Or do you get heightened emotions with the word Klan and immigrants?

The joke wasn't about immigrants. It was about how some libs who like to throw hot button names sometimes. Names that are not even in topic(homophobe) when confronted with things they don't like. It's kinda of playing out right now. You are a accusing  me about making jokes at the "expense of immigrants". LOL

Would you like to discuss the evidence you have as to the political affiliation of the domestic terrorist recently charged in Georga?

They haven't?

My understanding is that reservoirs are refilling, and the snow pack is building. The underground aquifers are slowly filling, but that takes a lot time. It there some way to pump water into an aquifer?

Arkansas bill weakens child labor protections

Quote

The governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, on Tuesday signed a bill that significantly rolls back protections against child labor, eliminating state requirements to verify that children are at least 16 before they receive a job.

A spokesperson for Sanders, who before becoming governor was White House press secretary under Donald Trump, told the Washington Post state law had been "burdensome and obsolete".

Quote

The new law weakens official oversight of child labor practices across the state.

The bill's sponsor, Rebecca Burkes, told KNWA the previous regulation was "one small burden on businesses, and also steps in front of parents' decision-making process about whether their child under 16 years of age can get a job".

Passage of the Youth Hiring Act of 2023 represents the latest attempt in mostly Republican-led states to loosen child labor laws, despite federal officials seeking to crack down on offenses.

In Ohio, lawmakers are considering a bill that would let 14- and 15-year-old children work year-round until 9pm each day. The bill has bipartisan support and includes a resolution that would ask the federal government to change its child labor laws.

In Iowa, legislative proposals would allow children at least 15 years old to sell alcohol and children at least 14 years old to work specific jobs in meatpacking plants. The Iowa bill would also protect companies from liability if a child got sick or injured or died while at work.

Just the other day a republican politician stood on a stage and gave a passionate speech about how republicans are the political party that will and does protect the children.  It's almost like they are gaslighting us...

Surely the Democrats passed a federal law when they were in charge that supersedes any state laws.  If not why not?

Interesting that these pro-child labor laws are being proposed so soon after the Dodd decision.

I guess workfare wasn't as lucrative as the business community had hoped. Anyone interested in a pool predicting how long it takes them to require children in low income families to work for their benefits?

Well, as long as they aren't teaching CRT, I don't see a problem (sarcasm).

State versus Federal Law

State and federal law have child labor standards, and, when the two differentiate, the law providing greater protection to the child is adhered to.

Protect them from Republican policy?

It's a simple question.  Obviously Democrats don't care to protect kids from their donors.

Yet it is Republicans who are weakening child labor laws. It's almost like that quoted opinion is disconnected from evidence.
