What caught your attention in the world today?

Published

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

I was referring to Congressional requests as a hypothetical possibility about running out the clock.  But it understand about the wingman part it's you libs that don't have a problem with it.

I am lost as to what this means. What is it that libs don't have a problem with? Congressional investigations, henchmen?

That's quite an extrapolation of what I actually said.  Are you intentionally misrepresenting my words or are you unable to comprehend their meaning?  If you really don't understand what my words mean you should just admit that and ask.  Otherwise I'm going to just call you out on the dishonest communication.

The DOJ doesn't have anything to do with congressional hearings... they are two separate and independent branches of government.

What were you trying to day then?

Every patriot that values our democratic republic should have a problem with that notion. Why don't you have a problem with it?

That clearly suggest that you believe the member doesn't have a problem with it. Suggesting no problem equals not being patriotic or does value or democratic republic.

Yet another non-sequitur. What are you saying? What is "it"?

What was I talking about?  What was MaybeeRN talking about?

Clearly none of what I said involved the idea that if you don't agree with me you aren't a patriot.  Did you read the thread of comments for context or did you just grab this one randomly?

I didn't understand the comment so I asked you to clarify. This was the advice you gave to maybeern. If unclear, ask.

It is not in my habit to make assumptions. When I do not understand, I ask for clarification. It's common sense.

It actually prevents "non-sequitur ".

The way you phrased your comment suggested it. If you did not intend that, then explain what you meant. Or don't.

And I'm clarifying my comments by asking you what context you have for your original question about my words.  I need to know what you DO understand about my straightforward remark about patriotism to another member before I attempt to get you to understand why patriots should be concerned about the thing that MaybeeRN was talking about.

No it didn't.  Not in the least.

Do you know what "it" was referencing when you used that word rather than the term MaybeeRN was using?

Are we seriously debating what the definition of "it" is?

Nope. No debate... just trying to get some members to read more carefully before jumping into a discussion. If they want to argue about the topic they should at least understand what the topic actually is.

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

I am personally unwilling to relitigate issues that I have figured out for myself years ago, especially the basic assumptions from which I operate, such as racism exists, Christianity is just one world view among many and they don't get to run my life, and that denial kills. I have already questioned those assumptions backwards and forwards and at length.

I'm old and going to die sooner rather than later. It's my job to synthesize 73 years of life experience and transmit what I've learned to whomever wants to hear it. Those who don't want to hear it don't have to. They also don't get to waste my time with sophomoric semantic silliness.

I'm with Chare: time for the children to go to school and leave the grown-ups alone to talk.

I think we are both in agreement with Chare in that respect.  However, even while the adults are talking someone needs to provide the children with the schooling that they need.  Someone needs to help them develop their reasoning and thinking skills so that they are less likely to be victimized by the conmen, grifters and charlatans that prosper in our society.
