I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news. I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

QuoteAccording to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.
Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.
The arrested the guy the next day.
What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.
Quote"There's no question, and it's been clearly stated, that discussions on a bilateral trade agreement with the UK and the US would come to a halt because of this issue," said congressman Keating.
In reference to "The Northern Ireland Protocol".

As you are aware, I've shared this concern for a spell now. Perilous times.

The British conservatives aren't done mucking about with the brexit fiasco, are they?
I saw a snippet on Fox News that VP Harris refused to define "semi-fascist" (which they define as slamming half of America) but I couldn't find it online. They were also making a big to do about republicans "promoting" republican candidates.
I guess Check Todd on Meet the Press asked about that which is why would be in the news this week.
QuoteHarris had just spent the previous minute calling election deniers “very harmful” and “very dangerous.” Then, given the chance to condemn those that elevate the views of election deniers, suddenly, she doesn’t want to take a position. Either defend the practice or condemn it. You can’t hold yourself out to be a future leader of the party and then refuse to take a position on how fellow Democrats should run their campaigns.
It really seems the conservative press doesn't get why some Democrats are doing this. On the one hand Democrats condemn election deniers and then "promote them" and feature them in their ads. They don't get it? Guess the joke's on them. Can't blame them for trying to change the narrative though.
Yeah it might backfire, but I don't blame her for wanting to lay low on the issue. Imagine "Harris condemns her own party!".
Edit: On second thought, I think he conservative press perfectly understands what the Democrats are doing and are trying to do their part to make it backfire.
Is Ron DeSantis the Future of the Republican Party? https://nyti.ms/3eGLqgW
QuoteIn an extensive examination of his life and record — across more than 100 interviews with aides, allies, antagonists and peers who detailed several previously unreported episodes spanning his decade in elected office — the most consistent appraisal was that DeSantis, who turns 44 this month, believes his raw instincts are unrivaled and that he may well be correct. He has for years merrily shunned the perspectives of moderating influences and gentle dissenters and found himself validated at every turn, his recent history a whir of nominally risky choices — expert-snubbing Covid policies, an uppercut at one of his state’s largest private employers, a long-shot bid for the office he holds — transmogrified to pure political upside as he seeks to position himself as his party’s rightful heir.
“You have a moment,” Casey DeSantis, his wife and closest adviser, has said privately in recent months, nodding at past would-be candidates who failed to seize their chance. The person speaking to her interpreted the remark unambiguously: The DeSantis family thinks this moment is theirs.
DeSantis has tapped into the power of the conservative culture wars, he will do well in a presidential campaign after Trump is rendered unelectable by the consequences of his criminal conduct.
QuoteThe Navy is ordering a full independent review of the Navy SEALs’ grueling selection program for new members. Investigators have 30 days to report back on how the training course, Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/S for short), is conducted and to see what shortcomings there are, according to a letter from outgoing Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. William Lescher, one of the officials said. The New York Times obtained a copy of the letter and first reported on it on Sept. 9. Lescher retired on Sept. 2.

This is a good thing... taking it outside of military leadership for an independent review.

Agree. Long ago we set up this country that the military is non-partisan and civilian controlled.
Training shouldn't be killing people.
Was interesting to read a comment from a reader "sounds like a way to water down the training and add female recruits".

Totally agree. Trump first has to get out of the way first. He will get all the Trump supporters on his side, but he's smarter than Trump and if he plays it right non-Trump supporting republicans will get on his bandwagon. This is his moment...he's poising himself by making headlines and doing what he's doing.
I hope it backfires because even while "anti-woke ideology" may be popular at the moment, like people don't like to be called "semi-fascist", people don't want to be insulted because they are woke.
There's no consensus to what it means to Republicans, they just know they don't like it. I remember during the Obamacare departs, reporters asking republicans about it, and they liked it until you said it was Obamacare.
QuoteYet lawmakers and operatives who spoke to NBC News varied in how they define the idea, while others said they didn't know much about "wokeness" at all.

I think Republicans know they shouldn't touch gay marriage. They gave up that fight long ago. For the last 10 years or so public support has turned the tide in favor of gay marriage.
I do think they will continue to fight against transgendered persons as that is still politically correct to do so.

Bold mine.
I think that is because the republican party is best at communicating grievance. Their priorities have shifted and the shift has accelerated since the Tea Party extremism was embraced by the party leadership.
