What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Why are you deflecting to medical records? Trump was dishonest about those also.

Character does matter... at least that's what Republicans said when they were so publicly appalled by Clinton's sexual indiscretions, right? So much has changed since then, I wonder if maybe you meant to say that character doesn't matter to Republicans who continue to defend the morally and ethically bankrupt Trump and a host of other bad actors.

No deflection you keep harping on precedent of releasing records yet Clinton didn’t release his medical records (Venereal disease). And Obama refused to release his grades (Foreign exchange student) so there’s that with your precedents.

Yikes

Is your post evidence that you believe that Bill Clinton had a venereal disease during his presidency?

You must be unaware that Obama was not a foreign exchange student... or maybe you are so entrenched in right wing nonsense that you actually believe that crap.

You certainly are establishing some interesting precedents here for conservative commentary.

"The Biden administration overstated the number of jobs created in the US during the second quarter by more than 1 million, according to a report issued by the Philadelphia Fed.

The Philadelphia Fed report found that just 10,500 net new jobs were created between March and June

That finding is in stark contrast to numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which estimated that there were 1.12 million new jobs added between March and June of 2022."

Have Trump's returns been released to the public?  I've been busy.l and missed that.

Some things have been leaked, and the head of the Ways and Means Committee says they will be redacted and then released.

Didn't the Buden administration simply discuss the information forwarded by the BLS? Was the expectation that Biden would dismiss the BLS numbers?

I thought that having Senator Rick Scott comment upon his opinion of Biden's dishonesty in reporting labor numbers was particularly rich. What credibility does Scott have to talk about any other person relative to honesty when he oversaw one of the largest instances of Medicare fraud in history.  He's throwing some big stones for someone with that kind of a stain on his resume. IMHO

Thanks.  I'm reading the story now.  Interesting that it's not really on Fox News.  Obviously they know when Republicans take control they aren't going to care what the tax returns says, nor release them so I can see why it might have some political motivation behind it.  Since Presidents have released tax returns in the past is what the Ways and Means Committee doing considered illegal?

They estimate only 10,500 new jobs?  Something sounds wrong about that.

From Ron DeSantis just last month:

Quote

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Florida’s economic data continues to show strength even with impacts from Hurricane Ian in Southwest Florida. In the October 2022 economic data report, Florida’s labor force grew by 36,000 and Florida’s private sector added 35,000 jobs. This is the 30th consecutive month that Florida created jobs, while private sector job growth has exceeded the nation’s for the past 19 consecutive months.

Over the month, Florida’s labor force grew by 36,000, while the national labor force shrank, and Florida’s private sector employment growth was double the national growth rate. Florida’s private sector employment grew by 5.6 percent over the year in October 2022 (+447,800 jobs), faster than the national growth rate of 4.0 percent.

I am very confused.  Did states loose jobs to counter what DeSantis says to come up with this low number of jobs created?  Maybe "increase in labor force" meaning something different to the Fed Philadelphia?

I have just as much evidence as you do with all your claims.  Why would Clinton not release his medical records?  The only conclusion that can be drawn is he had VD.  And why would the great and smart Obama not release his grades?  Easy because he was admitted as a foreign exchange student.

Great question.  But it doesn't seem that it would be legal  that the IRS, a congressional committee, or anyone else can release someone's, presidential candidate or otherwise,  tax filings to the public.

Two different time periods.  But, I'll concede that both parties likely looked at numbers that favored themselves.

I doubt the DeSantis' numbers were as misleading as the Biden numbers. Just IMHO.

Neal has said that they "adhered carefully to the law".

I am of the mindset of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should".

The easy question is whether, as a matter of law, the House Ways and Means Committee—which gained access to the former president’s tax filings after the Supreme Court dismissed Trump’s last-ditch bid to block the Internal Revenue Service from handing over the documents—can make Trump’s returns public before Republicans take control of the chamber on Jan. 3. The answer to that question is straightforwardly yes.

The harder question is whether, as a normative matter, the committee ought to make Trump’s returns public in the waning weeks of the Democratic majority.
