What can I do as an RN that is less labor intensive?

Published

I am a 46 year old LVN in Texas. I am trying to take a few class to become a RN. But I have some physical health problems. I can not keep pounding the floor for 12 hours. I work in a small rural hospital at night. WE just have 4 nurses on at night. We work ER,b and medical all in any one nifgt.

What I am wondering is what can I do as a RN that is less labor intenstive. Do you have any suggestion?

Thank you !! Debby:balloons:

Disease management

Case management

Home health

Telephone triage

Pediatrics in another hospital

What city in Texas are you close?

same day surgery

add to above dialysis, a lot of clinics, school nursing

their is a world of options out there..good luck

Specializes in nursery, L and D.

oh man, I wouldn't do dialysis if health problems prevent being on feet for long periods.....I did that for a while and I never sat! Maybe my place was different.

MDS nurse in LTC, triage in md office

Specializes in LTC / SNF / Geriatrics.

Long term care may be an option

I'd go with the free-standing same day surgery centers.

Plus they are closed weekends and holidays.

Long-term care maybe as a manager- certainly not a floor nurse.

I would suggest home health, or if you want to move away from the bedside, quality assurance or insurance company case management

Specializes in cardiac/critical care/ informatics.

case mgmnt at least in my facility requires a BSN

Most definitely keep going to school and get your BSN...case management, public health, qualtiy assurance would keep you from standing on your feet for long periods of time. Working in a hospital setting as a floor nurse or even out patient surgery I would not recommend as both require standing on feet for long periods of time.
