What brand/type of shoe should I get?

Hi, I just started my first job as an RN - It's on a med/surg floor - and I was just wondering what you have found to be the most comfortable shoe/sneaker to wear. The sneakers I have are killing me after a shift of being on my feet the whole day, have you found anything that helps with some of the discomfort?

Thanks, Jennifer

Anyone have any suggestions for the rare Murse?

Anyone have any suggestions for the rare Murse?

Crocks, Shox, or Birkenstocks

I wonder if I would be able to wear crocs. I have one foot that is a size 6 and the other is a size 7, so it is easier for me to wear shoes that tie tighter on my smaller foot. Slip ons and high heels are impossible for me. The only heels I can wear are strappy sandles so I can make the straps tigher for my smaller foot.

I asked the same question to a podiatrist who recommends dansko shoes! I have a pair and love them!

Where do you all get your shoe inserts? Are the Dr. Scholls inserts that are sold in Wal Mart the same as the $50 inserts I've heard of?

No, they are not the same. The inserts from my podiatrist were specially made for me, molds were made of my feet. I needed these orthotics because my feet overpronate and for me, that has caused some tendonitis in my feet in the past. The orthotics from my podiatrist were $580, insurance pd for most if not all of the cost. For my insurance it had to be pre-authorized. You may not need such specialized orthotics. I had tried the inserts at various shoe stores with little success. Hope this helps.

I absolutely love my Crocs. For me, comfort means the absolute least feeling of shoe possible. I'd wear moccasins if they were safe enough.

The problem with the traditional Crocs is it is possible to get nasty stuff splashed right in your shoe (nothing like the feeling of somebody's pee squishing between your toes as you run to the break room). Personally, it doesn't bother me enough or happen often enough that I would change to something else. I really like having ventilation, and I love how light they are as well.

I tried Dr Scholl's shoes, and my back has never hurt so much!

My twin sis swears by Dansko's. I'll try 'em eventually, I just can't bring myself to spending that much at the moment...

ETA : I have the Mary Jane Crocs. I also love how they show-off my hand-knit socks. :D

I love my Crocs Professionals, but I can't wait to try Dansko's.

I splurged today and bought a pair of danskos. I'll let you know how it goes. I've been wearing a pair of nursemates which have been great; they are just worn looking after 6 months or so...

I really like the Red Cross shoes from places like Jasco and Jack L Marcus-a lot of $ but part of the $ goes to the charity and the foot beds are verrrry comfy. Another girl got em and loves em too.
