WGU Pre-licensing BSN for 2015

Published

Hey everyone,

I am looking at possible attending WGUs Prelicensing.

I have been between 2 schools but it is looking more positive with WGU than the other school. I have to retake my A&P 2 due to the Lack of quality instructors. The Professor we had was absolutely horrible and many of us in the class need to retake it due to low grades. I will have to wait til Spring and take it at a community college instead of where I took the last one. I am wondering how many other are planning to attend in 2015.

Other than that I will have all I need to Apply. I am emailing my enrollment counselor and find out the upcoming dates that are out so far in 2015.

I am gearing more towards WGU and having a group to work together and keep eachother motivated would be great. Let me know.

Thanks

Shonda

Each 6 month terms runs alittle over $4000. You will not have massive loans with WGU. They are not expensive at all unlike the other BSNs.

Also you will be paying well over that 27k going the route you are currently trying to do.

They dont do LVN. It's all RN. You can test out if you were a CNA with some LVN courses. But WGU does not have a LVN option. You get your RN when you are completed. LVN is not a degrer, its just a license.

Thanks. Yes I been a cna for six years and called ca bon to see if I can test out but i don't have the required med surgical hours. I've only worked as a psych cna which sucks and wished my cna instructor would have said get a hospital job instead lol

But 4k every six months isn't bad.I wonder why people don't go this route instead of west coast university.

That is cool. I am trying to get the CNA license because it will be a big plus in the application when you are already certified or license as a CNA or higher. I was going to do EMT but the schooling does not work with my work schedule. I was a CNA but I did not get the opportunity to work as one. It expired and I need to retake the course because I went past the 2 year mark.

I don't know why folks don't try to go WGU either. The school is very picky on who they admit because they don't want to waste time bringing someone into the school that will not put in the time and effort to receive a good education and they need to be able to handle the online portion. They beleive in interviewing to see if you are a fit for their program. So you won't get accepted if you are not serious about your education.

ShondaJ,

Any CNA programs you can recommend? I also am considering the EMT or CNA before applying to WGU.

ShondaJ,

Yes, having a CNA license is a huge plus...you can buy a degree, but you can't buy experience. And that's what all these new grad bsn nurses suffer ...they cheat themselves thinking ill go through an Accelerated BSN course to hurry, not realizing that experience is just as important if not more.what will set a bsn rn no exp to bsn (cna acute care) is the bsn with experience used her time inbetween school working and buidling her credibility and becoming more marketable.well, yeah. One thing I do recommend is soon as you get your CNA license, do you're best to find an acute care job, stay current and up-to-date as well as make yourself diverse. (Ie. Ekg, pct, ect) It will pay off in the long run trust me. And I wished I would have known about that in the beginning of my cna career. I've been a working psych cna which is great, but when I go after acute care job, I pretty much is a new grad. Luckily my stable work history speaks for itself and shows commitement. I just had an interview today for a float per diem cna job for acute trauma level 2 hospital. I pray I get it because once you have a year of acute care exp, you can apply to work as a registry per diem cna in hospitals and they pay as much as a LVN salary ($16-20/hr)

Even though I am going after my lvn first, I will ALWAYS keep my cna license current and ceu's up-to-date because I heard that lvn exp doesn't count when you have your RN. I will use my LVN for more IV's + training but will still work as a cna acute on the side.

EMT is cool too. I will keep WGU on my to-list. I'm glad I found out about it on here :) you guys rock!

I am going to go to Ya Ya school in Culver City. They have a 5 week that's only 2 or 3 days a week during the day. I have the list of all the schools. It depends on where you are too. What area are you looking at? I will post the list in the morn when I get to work so I can get on a computer.

Good Morning,

For all the CNA programs in California here is the link. Just look at your county and research the program of your choice.

I would find one close and Google the school to check their schedule, how long their training is and pricing.

Good Luck!

Tasha, no need to graduate with debt. Scholarships are the way to pay everything off for free.

Protectnnurse2be- thank you for sharing. Much appreciated. Do you have any organizations you recommend?

Get a scholarship book, apply online, find them on school websites, etc... think outside the box.

Great idea. Thank you :)
