WGU MSN in 6 months

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

Is it possible to do the MSN educator program in one term 6 months? In a way that's 2 quarters, so it would be 15 units per quarter. If the student is able to handle all the load, is it possible to do in terms of prerequisites of the MSN classes-- are some classes REQUIRED to be taken before taking the next class? I understand that some classes SHOULD be taken before another class, but I want to know if it's possible to take them all at once?

QI project for education as well. The only fieldwork project I have done is with community health. I had to reach out to members of my community. Needed to accumulate 90 hours for this but no preceptor necessary.

Thanks for the replies. How many pages normally is the QI paper?

As many as it takes to address all objectives.

I think mine was 40 pages, including references, annotated bibliography, and diagram pages. The "meat" of the paper was probably around 20 pages.

I should hopefully be starting grad school online through in April for my MSN - Education. I have my BSN and am hoping to complete my degree as quickly as possible! I work for an academic medical center with their own IRB so I am wondering if anyone has attempted to start their capstone research/IRB process prior to actually starting school. I would start the program earlier but it is full until April. I'm hoping to decide on my capstone topic before I actually start so that I can hit the ground running!

The statement about the capstone project from the WGU website is, "Your final project will address a key issue, need, gap, or opportunity resulting from an identified need in nursing education or healthcare. The capstone project provides you the opportunity to demonstrate your competency and commitment to ultimately improving health outcomes." Most of my background is in emergency department nursing so I was thinking about doing something related to employee burnout in that specific department and how it is related to patient care.

- Has anyone started their capstone research prior to actually starting this degree?

- My enrollment counselor said that I can pick a preceptor to shadow for 90 hours - can you space this out over the course of the degree?

- Any advice on how to go through this program as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

The capstone no longer requires IRB approval.

But regardless, you can't start the IRB process without a fully formed research proposal. So, no.

Can someone elaborate on how the proctored exams are done? Are the exams difficult? What classes have proctored exams and which have papers? Considering starting in Jan 2016

You have two choices with regard to where you can take the proctored exams, a.k.a. objective assessments (OAs).

1. You can take them at home while utilizing the ProctorU remote proctoring service. The remote ProctorU proctors will observe via webcam as you take the test.

2. You can take them at an approved testing center.

Personally, I took all my exams at a local community college testing center because my home environment was (and still is) too messy for the ProctorU service to ever approve the commencement of any home exams.

For the RN to MSN, how may CU do/did you have? I just got my transcript review and have 67, which is a little more than I expected. I would love to do I in a year but....that's a lot., although, there are many who did 35ish in 6mos so...maybe [emoji12]....

I know this is an RN to MSN post but what is the best sequence of the nursing courses to take in order to finish in 6 months for the RN to BSN?

I have 31 credits left which includes statistics
