Hello all , we started on 5-26-09 with 66 students . We are currently in the 3rd level ( there's 4 levels) and sadly we are down to 22 students, I was so surprised that so many people dropped some due to grades and some personal reasons . I was just wondering if u all have this problem at your school or is it just mine. We don't graduate until 9-1-10 but at the rate we're going we could have our graduation ceremony in a telephone booth.

Your problem seems rampant in southern CA LVN programs. We've lost 50% of our original group. In general about 5% of a starting class finishes on time. The school posts a 92% pass rate - but if you count the number of people who get dropped for arbitrary reasons the rate is really more like 10% of everyone who starts. Then there's Term 5 - students who finish all 4 modules but get stuck indefinitely at the school because they are told they didn't complete something - but it's never clear what. Some people are in their 2nd and 3rd year after finishing Term 4 repeating theory segments, clinical segments, or just trying to pass clinical testing so the school will submit the paperwork for them to take the NCLEX. Our school also arbitrarily changes the graduation requirements - when we started Term 4 the previous class had to pass clinical testing on 4 procedures. They started the term telling us we would have to be tested on 6 procedures. Then a month ago - one month into the 3 month term they announced that we would have to test on 10 procedures and pass 9 the first time through to finish. Of course there is almost nothing at the clinical sites except injections, PO meds, and once in a blue moon an NG tube. I am horrified at what I have seen and heard - it seems like the LVN schools are just money mills for the owners. But for those of us stuck in the trap the only hope is to somehow push through and finish and maybe with a lot of luck find a job out there. A NOTE TO OLDER STUDENTS - there's a TON of ageism out there too. I am over 50 - at least 20 years older than the next oldest person in my class, and the other students, while superficially polite, do not invite me to their study groups, will not study with me (except 2 of them), NEVER invite me to after class tutoring or parties. In general it is a lonely miserable experience. I am determined to become a nurse but this program is HELL and one of the most miserable experiences I have ever had in wwhat was until this LVN program a long and fun lifetime. I know it's not easy - but I never thought it would be this nasty, back-stabbing, deceitful and unreasonable.

wowo...so scare..heheehehe..your story make me fl nevours....hehehe.. my class will begin in Apri 2010. and my program cost me 27,600... wht going on if I am not pass the class/ program.... I will be ....dead meat ..hehehe.... . Any more story pls ...

When I. Got in to my program , I came to this site looking for advice. Well 8 months into my program I can tell you there is NO advice . Just study hard and don't get caught up in class drama and gossip and you'll be fine.

I'm quickly learning the same thing....work your backside off studying & leave all the politics alone. We've only been in a week & I'm already seeing writing on the wall.....

LPN2010 - your story sounds awful, the school sounds worse.

did you investigate the school before your registered? seems as though there should be a course catalog for your start date that should outline all the requirements. to be changing the req's arbitrarily does not sound ethical.

as for ageism, at 56, I am the oldest in my class. I have not experienced what you describe. we have all different ages, nationalities and races. I get the feeling that the group as a whole (there are currently 31 of us), pretty much is of the mind set that we are all in this together!

best of luck to you with the rest of your program.

Good luck with your class, hang in there and study even harder!

We started with 29 and ended the semester with 20. I have learned not to get comfortable and start slacking on the studying. This is what got 3 people in my class a week before the semester ended.

Seeing people get the "boot" for grades, or any other reason should humble you! Knowing that I could be gone for any reason humbles me to study even harder now going into my second semester with because I am determined to finish this program and graduate!

We started with 50 people and graduated with 23.

People fail out of nursing programs mostly due to their own faults.

They don't study enough and get failing grades on exams.

They don't turn in assignments and lose points and fail.

They're late too often or miss too many days and fail out for attendance issues.

They miss a mandatory day and fail out. I saw this happen to 2 people in my class. We were told the day was mandatory and that we would fail if we didn't show up.

Do your best in school, be there and don't worry about the other students, gossip or other b.s. You're in school for yourself, not anyone else.

Step_in_future, this is a bit of advice for you since you are about to start a nursing program...

1. act professional

2. spell check your postings ( you have multiple spelling and grammar errors )

3. everything does not have to be "hehehe"

I am probally stepping out of bounds, but have noticed this on several of your postings...

I started at the end of Sep with 30 students, this is our last week of our 3rd mod and we now have 17 in our class. Lost over half our class after the 1st mod and gained 2 new students in our 3rd mod. I have 3 more tests to go this week and I'll be starting the 4th mod next week. Time really is going by fast.

We started with 67 by 4th term we had 27 and only 13 of us passed the HESI the first time. Everyone else did eventually but if you go by those numbers only 13 of us graduated on time
