We've lost so many students . How many have u lost ?

Published

Hello all , we started on 5-26-09 with 66 students . We are currently in the 3rd level ( there's 4 levels) and sadly we are down to 22 students, I was so surprised that so many people dropped some due to grades and some personal reasons . I was just wondering if u all have this problem at your school or is it just mine. We don't graduate until 9-1-10 but at the rate we're going we could have our graduation ceremony in a telephone booth.

our program started with 25, we lost ten and then gained seven that had failed in the graduating class before us (we have a class that walks in feb, may, and I walk in aug). from what I have seen a lot of people took up nursing because it is "good money" but once it gets down to the nitty gritty they realize they dont want it. I think so many people are coming in unprepared for how much dedication it takes to make it thru these programs. follow the advice of the others up here, study and worry about you and you will do fine!

Our class started with 31 in September now down to 16 students. Mostly due to failing out. The class that just graduated had 30 and only 6 graduated!!! Our school has a 100% pass rate on the nclex so the program is good, just really rough and the teachers are NO joke!

This is just insane to me. Do they all seriously fail or drop out? What does it take to get into the program? How much does it cost? I'm just blown away at those numbers. My school has a high 1st time pass rate and high graduation rate, granted it isn't 100% but it's still one of the highest in my state.

Well I have to be honest with you , I think one of the major problems with my program is their screening process . On the first day there were 66 of us and as I got to know people that day I came across one student (I'll never forget this) we were sitting next to eachother and we had are very first assignment when I was helping clarify some questions she had about it , the questions seemed silly , it was a straight forward assignment . Then she gave me a strange look and said " I can't really read that well" I was shocked I asked her how on earth she got in this program and how did she pass the entrance exam. She said the guy "helped her" , well needless to say I believe he "helped" a lot of people as it turns out most of our 1st level either couldn't read or couldn't do math . We lost 40 people in that level including the lady that sat next to me , I'm not sure why the school would do such a thing , I guess it all goes back to money , they just let any and everybody in and then they see who's still standing at the end. I think that's sooo cruel and yes I did speak up and yes the gentleman that gave the test was terminated, but I'm sad to say the incoming class has 70 students, I wonder if they got "help" on their entrance exam.

We had one student just up and quit when we were doing some math review at the start of the year. It was basically a day for the teacher to figure where everyone was mathwise but he freaked out and quit

One woman spent all her time chasing men at clubs and purposely failed out. She told me that her siblings failed out of college also. For some reason, nobody in her family cared about college except her parents. Another friend, was so, so into her boyfriend and her newly acquired taste for intimacy. She would sit in the TV room in the dorm and watch TV every night instead of studying and she would talk for long periods of time about her personal life with her boyfriend. Another student decided she wanted to go join the people who preach at the airport terminals. Another student was very, very obese. She got in her car one day and disappeared. She reappeared a month and a half later to move her belongings out of the dorm. She had been on the other side of the country and worried everyone sick. You should have seen how desolate and heartbroken her parents looked as they were gathering her stuff and taking it to the car. Another student decided she wanted to be an antiwar protestor instead of a nursing student. Yet another student just sort of wigged out after her parents split up and she really no longer had a home anymore. She went from an A student to failing. They gave her a second chance though. Three others decided that particular nursing program was not for them. They just quit.
