Western University MSN-E 2020

Published

Hi all!

I, being the impatient person that I am, decided to make a thread to discuss the upcoming cycle of applications for Western University of Health Sciences, Masters of Science in Nursing Entry program.

A little about me, my undergrad is a B.S. in Public Health, but I always was interested in the nursing field. After getting my CNA license I decided that this was the field for me and want to eventually go on to become a Nurse Practitioner. I've been working on my application and I'm very nervous/excited to hear back (even though that seems forever away haha). Anyone else applying for this cycle, and if so what are your thoughts on the program??

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

OMG

I'm so surprised after everything you've had to go through.

Where are you going, be safe out there !

The day of my interview, I got into UCI (which I was super surprised by). Most of the MS-Entry programs have similar curricula. UCI’s focus on public health and community nursing is also up my alley, as a public health professional. Plus, UCI will cost about 1/3 that of Western (and I’ll likely be able to be a TA, to make it cost even less). It’s not that I’m not grateful that I got in; I’m just choosing the school that will be the best fit for me.

Hi Everyone,

I received my offer letter last night, yayy! I m so excited to enjoy this wonderful nursing journey with all of you. I was wondering is there a FB group? Please let me know:)

Stay safe and healthy !!

Congratulations!! The FB group has not been created yet. The previous cohort usually creates the FB group once they receive the roster of all students.

I’m sooooo excited to start!

Has anyone heard any updates on the format of fall? I’m assuming no one has but it would be nice to know if it will be online or not. If I get into another program, I might end up going there so a spot could end up opening. Hopefully classes will be in person but I am doubting it at this point ?

I haven’t heard anything yet about the format for Fall. I really hope it will be in person also! At this point, anything can happen.

Hello all,

I emailed the admissions counselor and it looks like our cohort will be online this Fall.

I had a feeling with everything that’s going on, but I’m looking forward to meeting you all at the least virtually!

Has anyone heard back about scholarships and/or their loans?

Have anyone started on loans yet?

Hello everyone,

I emailed westernu earlier this week about the fall format and this is what (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) replied:

Good afternoon,

It may be a combination of online and on campus. I know that the faculty are arranging to have students do their time in the Nursing Simulation Lab, which is an on campus activity. We will be exercising social distancing and PPE to protect students, faculty, and staff.

We plan to host a virtual Town Hall for incoming students in late June or early July. This would be a great opportunity for you and your cohort to ask those questions and get more information. Watch out for an email invite in the near future, it will come from our Recruitment Office.

Thanks for sharing (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) response! That's a little frustrating though, as I for one was planning on moving to Pomona once they started in person classes again, and staying home if classes were transitioned to online format. What is everyone planning on doing regarding housing situations?

I was told to look out for an email regarding our loans in June. In terms of housing, I had originally planned on renting an apartment near campus, but decided I would just bear with the commute. This was before the whole pandemic started. I guess we are either not going to be able to attend Welcome Week or they will just have to split it into multiple sessions or something? Not sure ?
