Westchester Community College(WCC) Spring 2014

U.S.A. New York

Published

I received a call yesterday saying I was accepted to the Spring 2014 RN program. I wasn't accepted for the Fall 2013 RN. I was surprised because I was told originally when I asked that I couldn't take the TEAS until next year for next Fall and they wouldn't apply my current TEAS score to the Spring semester. So this is totally the opposite of what I was told before. My score was 75.3. So I was asked if I wanted to continue with the LPN program that I was accepted to for Fall 2013 or chose the RN for Spring 2014. I chose to go straight for the RN! So excited. I had to change my schedule for Fall though :( Has anyone else heard from the Nursing department about acceptance into the Spring 2014 RN program??? Please post when you do. They said they would officially send out orientation letters in a few weeks. Good luck to anyone who applied for the Spring!

Did you guys send back in the letter we had to check? Hopefully it gets there without getting lost.

You just reminded me! I will run out now and drop mine in the mailbox!

I got my letter on the 3rd (yay!). When I log into MyWCC, it still says Practical Nursing as my major.

Orientation is October 4th...can't wait! :-)

Mine too still says the same o_O

I am a bit worried that mine doesn't say anything to do with Nursing. Glad you sent yours in, i don't want to be that person that gets kicked out because of a letter :D

When you guys had to pick a major did you pick nursing? I was venturing into another major until i changed so mine shows what i was previously interested in.

This is what mine says...

Program:

Math, Comp, etc.

I think it will stay the same until they change it. only reason mine changed was because I chose LPN as a second option and accepted it. Don't worry it will change eventually :)

Is it true that Westchester Community is doing away with it's evening division of the Nursing Program, that's too bad if so.

Does anyone know of another program nearby that offeres evenings/weekends?

Yes it's true. Fall 2013 is the last time they are accepting students for the evening program. Those that got in this Fall for the evening program will be allowed to finish it.

I have a quick question. I am applying for Fall 2014 . I already completed all the prereqs ( and a most of the co-requisites) when I was earning my BA. Is the TEAS exam and the score you get on the exam the basis of admission? Does GPA come into play or the test score the sole deciding factor?

I don't believe they base it on your GPA. The lady who proctor the Teas said "After everyone have taken the Teas, i am going to compile a list starting with the highest score to the lowest." Which leads me to believing that they are only picking students who score above the rest and is not dependent on GPA. However if you have let's say a 90 on the Teas and a GPA of 2...Then i don't even think you qualify for the nursing program. Remember there are some classes that you need to take them within x amount of years and if that time has passed you'll need to retake those classes, for example i believe A&P needs to be taken within 6 years of completing the nursing program for it to even count.

They might for example look at your GPA from your core prereqs like Pharm, micro,a&p etc...But we have no way of knowing and when you do ask when signing up for the teas, the lady always say "They don't know.."

You now stand a better chance of getting in since they are now offering a winter/fall class. Study, study and study and you'll get in. Good luck!

when is the deadline for WCC for Fall 2014? There website doesn't seem to have much info. How do you apply, do you just fill out the regular application and choose nursing? Also, I'm taking A&P II in the spring semester while I apply. Is that okay, or does it have to be completed prior to applying? I clicked on the link to information sessions, but it doesn't go anywhere. Thanks!

Thank you for replying KingWCC . I took AP in the 2009-2010 academic year, so I believe that those classes are alright. My GPA should be ok too. I graduated last year with a GPA over 3.7. I an going to start studying for the TEAS next week. I am determined to get a perfect score when I take it next ( if possible). I have not taken pharm however. If I did get in the program I just planned on taking it within the program along with dosage calculations. However, all the other classes ( besides the nursing classes of course) are completed. The lowest grade I have in the prereqs is a C in Composition 2 and that is because I was a lazy freshman.

Good luck in the Spring :)
