  1. No they didn't refill the seat. Honestly, I would think it would be pretty hard for anyone to "catch up". I know it's only been less than a month but we already covered so much. For example, we already had our first exam on nursing theory last week.
  2. This is so true. I started in the Fall 2013 day program and there was only 25 of us in the class. One guy already dropped out saying "nursing isn't for him". so we're down to 24. For some reason I thought there would be twice that number in our class but I was mistaken.
  3. Yes it's true. Fall 2013 is the last time they are accepting students for the evening program. Those that got in this Fall for the evening program will be allowed to finish it.
  4. Besides the books that I listed, the following is what they told us to gett Uniforms from sandhuniforms.com (There's a specific style number so don't buy until after orientation)White shoes RN Pack ($83.50) from cestudents.com Watch with seconds hand pen light stethoscope That's about it.
  5. We're trying to save $$$ by not putting my daughter to daycare this summer. That means, I baby sit. So, "I decided" to take it easy this summer. I'm only taking one online course, which is why I'm up this late too. To be honest, I also don't feel like I could take any more heavy classes this summer. Last year took a lot out of me. I imagine it took a lot out from many of us. Most of us were taking full-time credits, had other responsibilities, AND studying for the TEAS. Not to mention the constant worry about getting in the program that most of us carried. For one full year, all I've heard is how HARD it is to get into the program. Hundreds of applicants with only this many seats. ALL this while we're taking science classes! It was very discouraging to say the least. And then you get "the letter". Relieved, but it almost felt like a letdown after. I was so happy and ecstatic and then it gradually subsided and I suddenly felt so tired. Like I JUST now realized how many classes I took and the pressure that I was in this past year. I have a lot of respect for WCC nursing students. What we went through before the program even starts is just crazy. Anyway, I digress. it's late. :-) Oh yeah, including myself, I think there was about 4 or 5 guys in the orientation. Guys are still very much a minority.
  6. Oh I totally agree with you. I was just saying that I wish I could have taken those classes before the program starts. It just wasn't possible for me, unless I extend this already 3-year associate degree another semester. Thanks for the advice on the recorder. I've never used one before but I think I will be taking one to my lecture classes from now on. I'm a lousy note taker. I'm sure we will be crossing path. The Health/Science building is not that big. :-) I'm not sure but I think they're also phasing out the RN evening program, so all of us will be walking into each other during the day. Good luck to us all!! It will be a hectic, crazy, fun ride these next couple of years!
  7. JasmDasm , My GPA is 3.88 but my TEAS isn't that high. My TEAS score is 82 with 93% national ranking. (The TEAS scores posted here in the forum are confusing anyway. Some post their scores, some their ranking. The versions of TEAS have a difference too. Version V is harder than IV and you would notice that TEAS V takers have generally lower scores that version IV takers.) The book list they gave us is below. They are expensive so personally, I wouldn't buy any of them till you get to orientation because who knows... they might change their mind or they might require a newer edition. Who knows. Required: Fundamentals of Nursing, 7th Edition ISBN: 9780781793834 Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing (Two Volume Set) Twelfth Edition ISBN: 9780781785907 Taylor’s Clinical Nursing Skills. 3rd Edition ISBN: 9780781793841 Taylor’s Video Guide to Clinical Nursing 2nd Edition ISBN: 9781608311491 Rnotes: Nurse’s clinical pocket guide ISBN: 9780803623132 Davis's Comprehensive Handbook of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests With Nursing Implications. 5th Edition ISBN: 9780803636644 Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses ISBN: 9780803628342 Handbook of laboratory and diagnostics tests ISBN: 9780781799072 HESI Case Studies: Comp RN Coll 2 year edition ISBN: 9781455727063 Recommended Pharmacology for Nursing Care 8th Edition ISBN: 9781437735826 Nursing Diagnosis Manual 4th Edition ISBN: 9780803628045
  8. Yes KingWCC. I'm taking Pharmacoloy in the Fall, and Microbiology next spring. I know its going to be hard but there was not much I could do. I had to take A&P 1&2, Chem 113, Biol 101, Math 135, Psych 101, Nutr 109, Eng 101, Soc 101 these last two semesters. These classes are all required for me before I could even take the TEAS. With work and kids at home, I just I didn't have any more time to take either Pharmacology or Micro. From what I've gathered in the orientation, a lot of the other nursing students haven't taken these two courses either so I hope we all can help each other and come out ok.
  9. This was covered in the orientation. When you take the CPR training, you will be certified for 2 years, starting on the date you took the training. But you will have to be certified for the entire 2 years nursing program. For this reason, They recommend you do CPR training right before your first term starts. Take it too early and you'll have to get certified again before your program ends.
  10. Also, I'm taking Pharmacology and Dosage this Fall. Hope I see you in the same class.
  11. Orientation was great. It was nice to see a few faces that I already know. We got to meet all the profs in the nursing department. They basically told us everything we needed to do this summer. (background checks, drug tests, vaccination, CPR training, where to get uniforms, Our Fall class/clinical schedules, school supplies we needed (stethoscope, watch, etc), where to get/buy uniforms, etc.) It was good, they didn't leave any stones unturned. They also gave us a list required books. All 11 of them! I'm not sure how they expect me to read them in the summer since I'm taking summer classes as well but oh well. If you want the book list, I can post them here. Although I'm not sure if any of them will change by spring term.
  12. Our practicum starts at 7:00am to 3:00pm. You can pick either Wednesday or Thursday. lecture from 8:00am to 2:00pm to Wednesday. And lab on Mondays. You can now see (and register) all the class schedules.
  13. I picked either day or evening but my preference was day and I got day. yeah definitely go into school next week. I would be worried as well if I were you. I really cant imagine what could be wrong in your situation.
