Westchester Community College(WCC) Spring 2014

U.S.A. New York

I received a call yesterday saying I was accepted to the Spring 2014 RN program. I wasn't accepted for the Fall 2013 RN. I was surprised because I was told originally when I asked that I couldn't take the TEAS until next year for next Fall and they wouldn't apply my current TEAS score to the Spring semester. So this is totally the opposite of what I was told before. My score was 75.3. So I was asked if I wanted to continue with the LPN program that I was accepted to for Fall 2013 or chose the RN for Spring 2014. I chose to go straight for the RN! So excited. I had to change my schedule for Fall though :( Has anyone else heard from the Nursing department about acceptance into the Spring 2014 RN program??? Please post when you do. They said they would officially send out orientation letters in a few weeks. Good luck to anyone who applied for the Spring!

I have taken everything except Microbiology,Pharmacology and Dosage. I will be taking Micro,Dosage,Med terminology, and a history class in the fall. You definitely will need a math if you continue on for your BSN as well as Chemistry. Some schools say Inorganic is ok,some want Organic chem most also want Statistics. I plan on taking one elective each semester to decrease the load for when I go for my BSN. Oh if you don't mind what was your score on the TEAS?

Also, I'm taking Pharmacology and Dosage this Fall. Hope I see you in the same class.

@ Other nursing student - Please make sure to get your CPR class in before you start the nursing program, i believe it's a requirement. I am so excited to start and get over with this program..

This was covered in the orientation.

When you take the CPR training, you will be certified for 2 years, starting on the date you took the training. But you will have to be certified for the entire 2 years nursing program. For this reason, They recommend you do CPR training right before your first term starts. Take it too early and you'll have to get certified again before your program ends.

Orientation? For the RN program? I agree, **** and ***** are the best.

Has anybody gotten their letters yet? I'm beginning to think I dreamt the phone call, lol.

She told me in about a month and I got my phone call on June 5th. Since we got in the morning program... It's going to suck for early morning exams lol..I had to make sure I wasn't dreaming too, checked my phone for a good hour to make sure it was true lol..

I don't recommend taking micro while taking nursing classes, can probably do it over the summer and don't risk failing. I took it and with lecture and lab.. It's way harder than a&p.

Also, I'm taking Pharmacology and Dosage this Fall. Hope I see you in the same class.

You're taking Pharm while being in the program? I hope you say no. He's no joke when it comes to pharm.

Yes KingWCC. I'm taking Pharmacoloy in the Fall, and Microbiology next spring. I know its going to be hard but there was not much I could do.

I had to take A&P 1&2, Chem 113, Biol 101, Math 135, Psych 101, Nutr 109, Eng 101, Soc 101 these last two semesters. These classes are all required for me before I could even take the TEAS. With work and kids at home, I just I didn't have any more time to take either Pharmacology or Micro.

From what I've gathered in the orientation, a lot of the other nursing students haven't taken these two courses either so I hope we all can help each other and come out ok.

Wow Noel, kudos to you for getting all those classes done! With kids to boot! I have kiddies too (9 and 19 months), so I know how tough it could be.

Pharm and Micro are hard, but not impossible. May I ask what your TEAS and gpa are? Also, would you mind posting or PMing the booklist you got?

Thanks and good luck this Fall!

JasmDasm ,

My GPA is 3.88 but my TEAS isn't that high. My TEAS score is 82 with 93% national ranking. (The TEAS scores posted here in the forum are confusing anyway. Some post their scores, some their ranking. The versions of TEAS have a difference too. Version V is harder than IV and you would notice that TEAS V takers have generally lower scores that version IV takers.)

The book list they gave us is below. They are expensive so personally, I wouldn't buy any of them till you get to orientation because who knows... they might change their mind or they might require a newer edition. Who knows.

That's like a grand of books right there. The main reason I didn't suggest taking those is because those classes are like 2 in one because they hammer in so much info within a 3 month period it's kind of crazy. When I took it it was literally pages and pages of drug that you had to know the pharmacy and generic names during exams. Please do yourself a favor and buy a recorder it will definitely come in handy. I myself will be needing to take some extra classes to satisfy my "full time" financial aid needs. I am sure you're capable of it but its going to be a long 2 year. Best of luck and who knows we may even cross path on campus(some of us will be a semester behind).

Oh I totally agree with you. I was just saying that I wish I could have taken those classes before the program starts. It just wasn't possible for me, unless I extend this already 3-year associate degree another semester.

Thanks for the advice on the recorder. I've never used one before but I think I will be taking one to my lecture classes from now on. I'm a lousy note taker.

I'm sure we will be crossing path. The Health/Science building is not that big. :-) I'm not sure but I think they're also phasing out the RN evening program, so all of us will be walking into each other during the day.

Good luck to us all!! It will be a hectic, crazy, fun ride these next couple of years!

I am not sure if Pharm is offered during the summer but i know for a fact micro is, that way less stress on you. From what i hear this fall will be the last session where both evening/morning programs are offered, everything after that is morning(due to fund). I know my session is spring and i am so excited about it, i can only imagine how you guys are feeling. I have a feeling this nursing course is going to ruin my GPA...but time will tell. I understand the situation you're in and i would do the same if i were you, get over with everything in 2 year instead of 3. That way you can jump right into BSN and not wait. I can't believe i am up at 1:50AM typing this message lol..I myself wish i had used a recorder because i write so fast and crappy when i go home and try to study it's like another language for me, i had to rely on other multiple people's note, so don't be that guy who is literally trying to decipher the note a few day before exam.

Is this going to be any different than like all the classes we took? I mean there are like 2 guys and 28 girls in the class, i hope it's more even this time.

We're trying to save $$$ by not putting my daughter to daycare this summer. That means, I baby sit. So, "I decided" to take it easy this summer. I'm only taking one online course, which is why I'm up this late too.

To be honest, I also don't feel like I could take any more heavy classes this summer. Last year took a lot out of me. I imagine it took a lot out from many of us. Most of us were taking full-time credits, had other responsibilities, AND studying for the TEAS. Not to mention the constant worry about getting in the program that most of us carried. For one full year, all I've heard is how HARD it is to get into the program. Hundreds of applicants with only this many seats. ALL this while we're taking science classes! It was very discouraging to say the least. And then you get "the letter". Relieved, but it almost felt like a letdown after. I was so happy and ecstatic and then it gradually subsided and I suddenly felt so tired. Like I JUST now realized how many classes I took and the pressure that I was in this past year.

I have a lot of respect for WCC nursing students. What we went through before the program even starts is just crazy. Anyway, I digress. it's late. :-)

Oh yeah, including myself, I think there was about 4 or 5 guys in the orientation. Guys are still very much a minority.
