I'm in west TN too!!! Up here in Martin. I don't graduate until May 2005 So glad to find others from Tenn on here!!! Hi all!!! :)
Tennessee Peer Assistance is an organization that is funded through the fee we pay to renew our licenses. If a nurse is having substance abuse problems or other mental health issues that are affecting their work, the nurse can self report or can be reported by the employeer or anyone else and they provide a program to give them help. The idea is that if the nurse participates in the program and signs a contract with TNPAP, everything is kept annonymous from the BON but if not, they are reported to the board. I self reported earlier this year and they were very rigid in their recommended program. The only option they gave me was a 12 week inpatient center that cost AT LEAST $ 30,000 !! I had no insurance. When I couldn't afford this they reported me to the state. I felt like I had been mislead into thinking they were there to help me. That's why I was hoping that someone else that had experience with TNPAP could give me some advice on how to porceed. Info about TNPAP is on the State of Tennessee website under peer assistance.
Hey how are you? My name is Shandra. I know this post is old but, I was wondering if you could give me some/alot of info on the program and the entry process. How was the NLN exam? How long did it take for you to get in the program? What was your GPA? What kind of grades were you making before you got into the program? I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I have been researching but I really would like to hear from someone with first hand experience. I am a student at Northwest. I'm finishing up my pre-req's there and I plan to transfer to Southwest spring 2010 as a nursing student. Thanks in advance! Email me when you can!
