I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!
i definetly recommend doing just that. what classes do you have left? im going to take eng and speech during the summer and then transfer them over to start in aug. im really excited and i cant wait.....
what classes do i have left? i just started. that's ok, we all have to start somewhere. i've been busy with work and family and didn't even think about school til now. but, i signed up for english and psychology. i did sociology 3 years ago. i might take 3 or 4 classes in the fall, i'm being optimisitc, i will be able to handle it. or i might just go for wcu by the end of the year. idk
i was just curious. the pre reqs i have to take are Anatomy Micro Bio chem. does that mean i woudl be limited to 1 class every 10 weeks or could i take 2 if not all 3 calsses in 1 10 week span to help quicken the pace. it would be dreadfull if i had to take 1 class every 10 weeks. that does not sound plesant at all.
You take two classes every 10 weeks - because of the pace of the classes it works best. You cannot double up on your sciences. I do have someone in my class who is taking two of the "other" classes. She is taking them online. I do recommend the online format for those classes (your English, soc, etc). Best of luck! I am just finishing up my first term and love it!
So I got accepted to the ADN program at my local community college in NY and got my clinical's really close to home (5mins away). I also went out to Cali to check out West Coast, and passed my HESI.
I've done more digging on West Coast and I found out that they're pre-requisite classes are non-transferable to cal state school's or any state school due to the fact that it is only ACICS accredited (Basically accredited as a trade school). So if you want to do your masters you would have to re-take all your pre requisites, or do it at WCU where they are starting to put together a Nurse practitioner program.
I'm having a major debate, I love Los Angeles and I really love Cali, I really have nothing against West Coast the people are great it's just that I'm not so sure it's worth it if it's non-transferable when my ultimate goal is to be a NP. Then I could just stick it out and finish up my nursing and get my RN home, and invest all that money I'd be spending at WCU towards my masters and other things.
LOL I hate being a confused teenager (almost adult lol) that is really indicisive.
Anyways please give me your feedback on this situation, and if there is anyone in the BSN program already please tell me if you feel it's worth the 100k??

Someone on this board spoke with Cal State Fullerton who said that they take students into their MSN program there... ?
congrats on both passing the hesi and getting accepted into a rn program. true wcu isnt accredited yet, they are in the process of getting accredited though. i say if you have already been accepted into a program at home where it is cheaper then go there. you can always come to cali once you are done. if wcu is working on a np program, then you can get into that and pay a lesser amount because you will already be licensed. as for myself, im taking my pre-reqs at a jc so they will be transferrable when im ready to take my career further. however, if i get accepted into a traditional program i would take that route. just my opinion though. good luck to you in whatever you decide!!!

Well, when this happens it would be one less excuse for me to use. Way back when I looked into VN schools, I considered ACC, but the thought of traffic & accidents on the fwy and less ways to get home, made decide to stay inthe valley. This would be great, to be located in NH, numerous ways to get home, and closer to work.
Good luck with school, I'm excited for you to start you new career path after becoming an RN. I'll be checking in on you to see how school's going.
