West Coast University?

Published

I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!

I applied for the ADN program. I was told by the counselors that Biochem needs to be taken before any of the RN clinicals. The Dean thankfully counted my pre-req's so I am scheduled to take Biochem class this April.

did u take biochem anywhere before?

hii.. just wondering if u could help me out.. i'm supposed to be set for the Aug term. i still need to get my pre-reqs in. i have a bs in biology. so most of the pre-reqs i've already done.. i've taken biochemistry, all the english, math, stats, microbiology, intro physcho, sociology, and oral comm. i was just wondering were they really picky about which classes they would allow to transfer over???

What they made me do for my pre-req's was list what I would like to get credit for and make photo copies of the class description. The pre-req's have to be no more than 5 years old for them to accept it. The Chemistry class I took at a community college was only counted for 4 units. WCU's Biochemistry is 5 units :(

yaaa my biochem was 4 units too!! but ALLLLL BIOCHEMISTY! i took at a cal state all cal state offer 4 units....i'm not sure about uc's but i'll check i think thats lame! because we cant start any nursing courses till we get that done! okkk besides biochem what else did they not get?

Vespa-girl, sorry it took so long for me to reply, but the same exact thing happened to me. My biochem class was also only worth 4 units and no I have not taken the test yet. I am trying to study and remember as much as I can, so I do not need to take the class. The thing that really ticked me off was that I took an extra chem class (gen chem) and they still are making me take the test, even though both classes used the exact same book as they use for the one biochem class. If anyone takes the test before I do, because I plan on taking it in june right before I start, please let me know how hard it is.

Thanks,

Lyssa

Oh and for everyone with a bachelor's degree thinking about nursing, Concordia has an excellerated nursing program, only for people with bachelor's degrees, so you might want to look into that :) I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure they is no wait list, and the campus is gorgeous.

hey everyone,

I plan to attend West Coast University in the fall. I'am currently an lvn does anyone know how long the program will be and does your G.P.A have to be 3.0.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

Bebe...back when I considered WCU, they told me my LVN gpa had to be 3.0 overall. They're incredibly expensive and disorganized. I didn't end up going there, and actually moved up north for 9 months for a program that accepted my prereqs that were 5 1/2 years old. It would have taken me 9 months longer to go through WCU, and been an extra 10k.

nope, just pass the hesi entrance exam and you'll be ok.

I already have a seat saved for the June 22 class. The only obstacle i have right now is the financial aid. I applied for the Wells Fargo Collegiate loan and was denied. They said I needed a co-signer but unfortunately both my parents' credit scores aren't all that great either. Knowing all that I still attempted to add my mother as a cosign and as expected was still denied. I'm almost positive if it weren't for this economy that we're in, i would have been approved FOR SURE. I really want to go to school but I don't know how else to take care of this financial aid. Anyone have any suggestions?

can you pay month to month? We opted to do that - I know it is not an option for all - but maybe you can do a personal loan from someone? Can your parents or someone else help on a month to month basis?
