Thanks Allisonhillary for the words of advice! I called the coordinator this morning, she said there was a problem getting the email out to the gmail accounts. I really liked their interview process. The interviewers and staff really make you feel comfortable. Meeting the simulation clinical instructor again was also a nice touch since during the original tour we were probably one of 60 or so. Today's interview had 7 people and there is one more day of interviews this Friday from what admission mentioned. I hope I made the right impression and am able to join you this coming cohort. Fingers are crossed.:)

West Coast University-Child Care
Hi Nurse2bmom, I finished my first semester there at WCU and then left the school for a number of reasons. It took about a year to finish the traditional prereqs at various local communities. I am now at Western Governors University in my first semester of Nursing Core for a BSN and Licensure. https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-stu...ge-379554.html Here's another one of my old thread conversations as well. West Coast University BSN to MSN - Nursing for Nurses I still have friends that are in the WCU program and they wished they could get out but they are already in the clinical portion and spent so much money at the school. It would be a waste not to finish. I am not bashing the program but I know it wasn't for me. I have another friend that finished the ADN program with a cohort of 80, only 4 got jobs including her (and she got the job because she was a referral not due to graduating from WCU) I left after my first semester and found a cheaper alternative at Western Governors University (which is regionally accredited) and CCNE. For 2 semesters worth of WCU tuition (probably now $125K+), I will have a degree at WGU,(includes books, supplies and fees) WGU is only $17K +supplies so its closer to $20K. I have two young kids and could not justify paying for WGU tuition (approx $1600 per month for the next 10 years) Especially with the shaky employment climate. Hope all is well. And hope that WCU is best for you and your family.

Has anyone heard of Western Governor's University?
Hi SPJJ Mommy, just curious but have you been able to contact WGU lately? I've been trying to reach my new counselor by phone and email for the past couple of weeks to no avail. Did you get a definite date of when all the items are due? Have you completed your application file? If so, have you gotten any correspondence from them since. All I received is an email receipt of transcripts and a notice that my counselor had changed. From one mommy to another, this school is high on my list since it makes the most economical sense and I don't mind the online/self study style.

Moving from IL, very commendable and is a leap of faith. =D Did you apply to Sammuel Merritt? I was thinking to apply there also since my inlaws live up there. You mentioned a new law requiring a DNP. I am curious about what do you mean exactly? Are you planning on going the NP route? or Are you planning on going into education? Here is what I found on the http://www.aacn.nche.edu/DNP/DNPFAQ.htm "Will DNP programs prepare nurses to assume roles as physicians? No. Nursing and medicine are distinct health disciplines that prepare clinicians to assume different roles and meet different practice expectations. DNP programs will prepare nurses for the highest level of nursing practice. Transitioning to the DNP will not alter the current scope of practice for advanced practice nurses as outlined in each state's Nurse Practice Act. "

Volunteered at 2 hospitals in the past year and have 2 home care PTs. I'm anxious and nervous as well. I don't know if this is enough experience since I'm not a science major (bachelors) but business instead. This application will shape my future and my family is riding on this. I've never wanted anything more in my life. How about you? Can you tell me more about you? Let's keep on posting if we get any word from Western U.

I finished all my prerequistes this time. Last year, I still had them mostly pending (all the science ones). Did you get a letter that said something to the effect of "has potential". No interview last time, just a letter. How about you?
