I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!
to verify whether a registered nursing program is accredited, please see the listing of approved california rn nursing programs. for further information, you can also contact the california board of registered nursing at (916) 322-3350 or via email at [email protected].

re: west coast university?
ohhhhh sorry i kinda forget i had one more question is this program at least brn approved?
hi,
the wcu program is brn approved. i made sure of this before enrolling.
see link below.
Thanks knowing that it is at least BRN approved gives me relief.
If I get in I would be coming in all the way from NY and the fact that it isn't NLN accredited was kinda freaking me out cuz like everyone has said it is a lot of money. So far it all seems very nice though. I received my package from the Director of Admissions, I've had a couple of phone conversations discussing my transfer credits and such and honestly he's really making me look foward to taking the HESI and getting in! Anyways is there any tips anyone can give me on taking the HESI??? and is anyone planning on starting the BSN program soon cuz I'd like to keep up with you guys to see how it goes?

HESI is relatively simple. Just review the review guide book. Do a few of each type of problem for math. If you are stumped, go back and review the explaination on that particular problem type. Basic Grammar, Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary are also on the test. When I took it, we did not have anatomy vocab on there. Don't worry too much, just do a good review and you'll do fine.
They are in processes of getting their CCNE accred. See their webpage regarding accred. http://www.westcoastuniversity.edu/content.aspx?id=125 It depends what you want to do in the future, if no need for masters, it may not be too important. I heard that CSUF Nursing accepts the BSN from WCU. That good because they have a CRNA tract.
Which campus are you enrolling in? Ontario, LA or Orange County. If you go to Ontario, perhaps you will be passing me up with all your prereq courses. All the counselors, deans and instructors have an open door policy regarding communication. They welcome all comments, questions etc. Just the other day, I dropped in on the Academics dean without an appointment and unloaded a bunch of questions and she answered most of them and is getting back to me on a couple.

Oh that's cool, but just to double check with you the HESI is just reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and math right? cuz my study guide also includes anatomy and physio, chem, bio, and physics. It's great that they are working to get CCNE accredited!!! Open's up more chances to get a masters!! =) I'm going to the LA campus...I'm taking my test on April 30th to hopefully get it for August 30th term. How was the financial aid process for y'all??? I'm still kinda scared of the astronomic costs lol

Hi Chikita,
Hesi depends if you are going ADN or BSN.
BSN only includes vocab, reading, math and grammar. I think ADN includes the bio and anatomy terms. Financial aid was pretty smooth for me. My dad has great credit. Most of the terms say if you pay 24 consecutive months, the cosigner drops off. but you will have to review the terms of the lender for yourself. Just have a cosigner with excellent credit.- This will lower your interest rate and increase your chances for approval. Don't go for approval on your own unless you have spotless credit, most likely get disapproved. Credit approval is very hard right now. Fill out FAFSA form and that is what they use to input your data even if you can't qualify for FAFSA this time.
Hi, i'm missing the same pre reqs as you, b/c i also did the rest of the pre reqs, now did you mean its about 93,000 before financial aid? Just from deducting the pre reqs it came up tp 93? Cuz thats def a big difference from 116,000! plus after financial aid and applying for schalarships, that will make a difference.
