West Coast University spring 2019

U.S.A. California

Hey guys!

i just got accepted into West Coast University in Orange County. I'm super anxious/excited about starting the program and I was even more in shock to find out that with all the classes I'm transferring I'll only end up with about $40,000 in loans for my BSN degree. I'm really impressed with their NCLEX pass rates (93%) and I'm also glad they are WASC, CCNE, and CBN accredited.

Im going to be moving from Northern California (Sacramento) for this program and I was wondering if there's anyone (female) that would need a roommate? I don't want to live on my own because the cost of living can be super pricey in Orange County and I won't be working.

Another question I have is how good are the professors? I have a 3.8 overall GPA with A's in most of my sciences but I've alwayd had to study hard. I expect nursing to be the hardest thing I'll ever had to study but I think it all begins with a great professor..

any words of advice from WCU graduates or current students?

we are all required to attend the orientation. That is where you set up your ati and do a few other things. You will be limited to your choices most of the time they will just place you where ever there is space. We preference for clinical and get our site selections in week 2 or 3 of the term. I am sorry that they didn't communicate well. In all honesty that's kinda the norm at this school. You have to stay on top of stuff. They can be very disorganized.

I would just tell her the days you prefer. And if they have an open spot im sure they will place you. In fundamentals you will only have clinical a few times the whole term.

Omg, you seriously just answered my concern. They made it seem as if I wouldn't be able to preference at all, even if I'll only be like a couple weeks late.

You've been so helpful.

Specializes in Neuro ICU.

Your welcome! Glad to help!

Hi!

my clinical starts next year and I was wondering if I can get uniforms from people already graduated? Or do I have to buy brand new one?

Hi!! I am wondering if WCU is hard to be accepted into? I have over a 2.0 GPA but less than a 3.0 from my previous college. My prerequisites I also have less than a 3.0 but higher than a 2.5 GPA for those prerequisites. I really want to apply but Im afraid ill be rejected. I want to apply but not waste my time attending the information session that is required. Please let me know your GPA ranges if you were accepted!! Thank yoy

Hi, I am interested in attending this program but I heard the tuition is over 100,000. I have taken all my pre reqs and GE courses at a community college. Is that what you did? And is that why your tuition cost is much lower?

@rebecca_96 Hey . . . Congrats!!! I'm just finishing up my first quarter at WCU-OC. And so far I'm happy with the program. I have Pinson for FYS and Morales for Phil 341. Both have been great. Take them if you can. I dont need a roommate but I am going to sell my Phil 341 book after the quarter ends if you're interested. Also, I'm a single mom, I have 4 classes, and I work as a nurse assistant at a local hospital and I'm getting straight A's - so dont worry - You got this!! Goodluck!

@rebecca_96 I’m starting WCU OC in January and I’m willing to buy any book off of you. Email me if anything [email protected]

Hi, and welcome to WCU! I can't help you with the roommate situation because I live way more inland and go to the Ontario campus, but I wanted to stop in and say that I have absolutely loved going to WCU! I'm in my last term, and I feel that this school prepares you very well for the NCLEX and transitioning into new grad clinical practice. It's also totally possible to keep up a high GPA as long as you're studying. It's an intense program, but I've been able to keep mine at 3.98. ? The instructors have been amazing, and they really go above and beyond to make sure you have the tools to succeed. They even have international programs that honors students can apply for, and the school pays the expenses! I just participated in the Oxford program this summer, and it was awesome (and will look good on a resume, too!). I'm now only about 8 weeks away from finishing, and I'm 100% happy with my choice to go to WCU! Best of luck, and feel free to message me if you ever have any questions!

This makes me feel better about applying here thank you

Hi everyone,

I entered the party kinda late ? I'm applying for Fall 2020 admission. Does anyone know if as long as you apply you will get accepted? My stats are GPA 3.88, TEAS 80%. I'm in the unconditional enrollment.

I'm also applying to SDSU and CSULB, but these schools seem to be highly competitive, so I kinda doubt myself that I'd get in. That's why I'm thinking going to WCU. If I know I will 100% get in WCU, I'd probably just drop those 2 schools to save money...

Hey there!! Finally a reply on allnurses lol I've commented many posts but seem like everybody already left the thread.

Do you know how the admission works? I know it's first come first served and depends on space availability. My admission advisor told me she would send me an email when the Fall app. is ready, but I'm still worried if there's a chance I won't get in...
