West Coast University spring 2019

Published

Hey guys!

i just got accepted into West Coast University in Orange County. I'm super anxious/excited about starting the program and I was even more in shock to find out that with all the classes I'm transferring I'll only end up with about $40,000 in loans for my BSN degree. I'm really impressed with their NCLEX pass rates (93%) and I'm also glad they are WASC, CCNE, and CBN accredited.

Im going to be moving from Northern California (Sacramento) for this program and I was wondering if there's anyone (female) that would need a roommate? I don't want to live on my own because the cost of living can be super pricey in Orange County and I won't be working.

Another question I have is how good are the professors? I have a 3.8 overall GPA with A's in most of my sciences but I've alwayd had to study hard. I expect nursing to be the hardest thing I'll ever had to study but I think it all begins with a great professor..

any words of advice from WCU graduates or current students?

Hi guys!

I recently got in WCU with conventional accepted. So what is the difference between conditional and unconditional?

If you conditionally accepted you will have to take and pass the teas exam. In FYS everyone takes the teas but you will have to pass it if you are conditionally accepted in order to continue in the program.

hi i have a question re grading at wcu..

i am new to wcu i will be transferring from a diff school i did all my pre reqs already and will be coming in to start my core nursing subjects.

my question- how is the grading system in wcu? in my previous school -for example- i have a med-surge class and 3 exams are given in a semester, to pass this class i have to pass these 3 exams with a C+ or higher first and all assignments + quizzes is added to the grade at end of semester. if i fail all my exams then automatically i fail the class eventhough my hwork and quizzes scored high.

i hope i make sense. pls explain how grading in core nusrsing classes works at wcu. thanks.

Hi,

It is similar at wcu except both your tests and quizzes are counted in your critical score( the score you need to pass the class). At wcu you need to score a 76 or higher in your critical in order to pass the class and have your assignments added into your grade. So it is not based soley on three exams like your previous school. The critical grade counts all of your tests and quizzes

****so exams and quizzes are added together to pass core nursing subjects not just exams with a C+or higher. then all other hwork are added at the end of semester.

i have a hard time passing my medsurge1 -i failed my 3 exams so automatically i failed the class.:( have you taken medsurge? how are the exams? do they offer tutors at wcu?

hi slyvalleygrl,

forgive me.. just wanted to clarify

on quizzes and exams i need to score 76+ to pass right.. is this a total of all quizzes and exams combined at the end of semester to pass core nursing subjects? then they add hwork to grade to get final grade? hope i dont confuse you. sorry

Yes they are all added together and if you score a 76 or higher your homework is added in for your final grade. We will usually have a quiz every week from week 2 until week 8 of the term. And a mid term and a final. The exams and quizzes are all taken through ati. I find them challenging but I think that is the case for all nursing programs. It is also an accelerated program so it is a lot of self study.

I am finishing up fundamentals and will start med surg in 2 weeks. Yes the professors tutor and we have student tutors called PALS tutoring. When will you be starting ? Are you going to the LA campus ?

yes its mostly self study in my prev school too. 1 day lecture and lots of self study.

hopefully i start in oct28. i meet phillip tom. hopefully most of my trasnsfer classes are accepted to wcu.

pls keep me updated on medsurge1 i wanna see how you do with this subj. goodluck and thank you for your infos. and yes LA campus.

hi do you know if wcu will transfer all my core nursing classes from my previous school. they're telling me i need a "letter of good standing" from my prev school .. are they just giving me a hard time with this transfer credit issue or what? any advice ill take. pls respond.

i already submitted my official transcript and letter from director of nursing stating all classes i have taken however my prev school wont specifically write a letter of good standing as I am not enrolled there anymore. this is what i told wcu... pls help thanks for all the advice...

I am sorry that your going through that. I only know of one person who failed out of a nursing program and transferred to wcu. She was in an ADN program so she had to complete some bsn pre reqs when she transferred and she started over in nursing core from fundamentals. What did they say when you explained to them that you could not get a letter of good standing ?

However, I dont know if that is the norm. I would just stand your ground and keep bugging them about it. I wish I could give you more advice i'm sorry.

Anyone starting in fall 2019? My study partner and I both decided to go to WCU after waiting and applying to other programs for the past year ??‍♀️ I too wish I'd known about WCU sooner!

How do I apply for the scholarship through the school? I'm transferring in all of the prereqs but the cost is still high and any scholarships would really help. ?

Hi! I’m starting in October! For the scholarship through the school I believe you have to be rejected from two private loans and then they give you scholarship money based on how much tuition you have left to cover.
