Hey guys!
i just got accepted into West Coast University in Orange County. I'm super anxious/excited about starting the program and I was even more in shock to find out that with all the classes I'm transferring I'll only end up with about $40,000 in loans for my BSN degree. I'm really impressed with their NCLEX pass rates (93%) and I'm also glad they are WASC, CCNE, and CBN accredited.
Im going to be moving from Northern California (Sacramento) for this program and I was wondering if there's anyone (female) that would need a roommate? I don't want to live on my own because the cost of living can be super pricey in Orange County and I won't be working.
Another question I have is how good are the professors? I have a 3.8 overall GPA with A's in most of my sciences but I've alwayd had to study hard. I expect nursing to be the hardest thing I'll ever had to study but I think it all begins with a great professor..
any words of advice from WCU graduates or current students?

Hi, thank you for your response. I'm scheduled to start 08/2019, and I am transferring all pre-reqs, but they're mandating that I separate FYS + critical thinking, and patho + capstone into two separate terms. This is very frustrating for me because I want to take all four classes at the same time for efficiency. FYS is a pre-req for Capstone, but after I took a look at the course descriptions, I realized that they have nothing to do with each other.

Oh I see. Yea they don't allow anyone to take four classes because of the work load and it being an accelerated program. It would be very challenging to take all of those classes together. I assumed you transferred in critical reasoning. You are correct, FYS and capstone arent related. FYS is just a how to succeed class and capstone is a whole class dedicated to a research paper. They are both mostly busy work.
I know its frustrating I spent a whole term taking only critical reasoning, because they would not let me overload. However, I would not recommended doing all those classes together even if they let you.
Hello all, ?
I start in August with FYS + Critical Thinking. Then, I will be taking Patho+Capstone... core for me starts in January 2020.
Since my first two terms won’t be core nursing classes, do you guys think if Id get a job, it would be doable? I am moving down from Norcal, so any extra money I can make before entering core nursing would be great!

Hi guys,
I recently just got admitted into WCU (N. Hollywood). I actually had my financial aid appointment yesterday with the FA advisor. I just wanted to talk about how at first I was super happy and excited to have found this school since I got rejected to 4 out of 4 of the cal state programs I applied to, I was quite saddened and a bit heartbroken because I currently work two jobs (8 hour shifts on 4 days and 14 hour shifts on 3 days out of the week) and I felt like overworking myself ruined my chances of pursuing a career that I am passionate about. I had my info session roughly a week and a half ago and I left super happy. I loved the campus and I loved the staff. Most importantly, I loved the fact that I was being given a second chance to become an RN! This is what I found out after my FA appointment:
My tuition would come out to be $37k the first year only (not including pre reqs since I finished those at a CC). And I only qualified for a federal loan of $5,444 (given I submitted my FAFSA 19-20 in October 2018). I did not qualify for any grants. My financial aid advisor pretty much told me to figure out how to cover the rest of the $31k on my own. She gave me the option of applying for a Parent Plus loan, which is a fed loan that will be under my parents name with a fixed interest rate of 7.08%, or private loans. The other option she gave me was to make installment payments of $3,100 monthly for a length of 10 months. But if I have to focus on my studies, that last thing I want to do is financially stress myself every month over that $3,100.
I was low key disappointed that the advisor didn’t want to spend anymore time with me on the phone to help me come up with other alternatives and only wanted to push for the loans. I am, however, currently applying for different scholarships. The last thing I want to do is to take out loans. If I don’t make a decision/ come up with a solution on how to find coverage for my tuition of $37k, I might just have to push back my start time to January 2020 instead of this Oct 28 and I really don’t want to do that. ? additional financial advice/ info on scholarships will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have heard from other students that they were able to work up to two jobs while completing the program. Of course everybody’s different and some can handle more than others. With that said, I am positive that you would be able to work at least one job, it’s definitely doable. And omg! I am also moving down from NorCal ? And my boyfriend will be coming with me so he can support me and help pay for our place while I focus on school hehe ? Wish you the best of luck!

I recently got in WCU with conventional accepted. So what is the difference between conditional and unconditional?
Conditional admission means that you would have to take some additional steps in order to get enrolled vs. unconditional means they don’t need anything further from you. Usually with a conditional admission, the things they need from you include: entrance exam score, official transcript(s), and financial aid appointment. I would advise you to reach out to your advisor to find out exactly what it is that they need from you.
