Well, I think I just flunked out of nursing school today.

We had another psych exam today....I was the one who posted on our last exam where only about 15 students out of almost 150 past the exam.

Well, we could only miss 10 on this exam and I missed 16, which puts me down by 11 points overall.

We only have 4 exams left and they all cover 300 to 600 pages of material for each unit and we only have 2 1/2 weeks for each one.

I have clinicals tomorrow and I'm not going. I just e-mailed the director to see what I need to do.

I would have to get a near-perfect score on the next 4 exams and there is no way I can pull that out.

Go...don't give them any excuse to drop you. Here's the thing: If you drop, and something comes up and they add a bunch of points, or add a exam or opportunity...how bad are you going to feel?

Is it a case of not studying correctly for this professor?

You CAN do this....we all belive in you.

Hang in there. I was ONE test away from flunking out of my nursing program alltogether (I kept making the same stupid mistakes on doseage calculation tests, administered by a Clinical Instructor who seemed to take a perverted delight in failing students). Anyway, I made UP my mind that I was NOT going to allow myself to become another one of her statistics, and I aced every test from then on out.

Don't leave unless you are forced to. You can DO it!

If you don't go to clinicals, they are going to think you have ALREADY given up!! :nono: You have to pull yourself together and move forward. You WILL fail if you keep focusing on how you have no chance to pass! Instead, focus on how you can get through this class. Although you have a reason to be upset, you have got to get over it because it will NOT help you in your situation! Get upset about failing when you actually fail--now is the time to regroup. :D:up:

Good luck to you!

DON'T GIVE UP.

Goodness, Hopefull, you have been living and breathing this for years.

Make them throw you out if it comes to that. DON'T GIVE UP.

Good lord, if you don't go to clinicals, you might as well drop out.

If you go to both clinicals and class, put as much effort into everything now as you have in the past, and you still fail, how does that look to the instructors? A whole lot better than if you just dropped out.

Listen, the worst you can do is fail, and have to retake a semester. If you fail because you stopped going to clinicals in addition to doing poorly on some tests, do you think they will be inclined to let you back in? Keep up the hard work, and you can be proud that you put your best effort into it no matter the outcome. Slack off, skip clinicals--how will you feel about yourself then?

And what happens if, at the end of this section, everyone is doing so badly that they reevaluate the grades? You keep working hard--you could pass on the reevaluation. You give up, skip clinicals, and drop out-you've failed completely and miserably. Don't do that, you've worked too hard to short change yourself like that!

I would go to clinical too. Hold your head high and keep trying.

Make them throw you out if it comes to that. DON'T GIVE UP.

I couldn't agree more. It ain't over 'til it's over. And then, if need be, you can ask for a do-over. Stay positive and come here for support!

Which psych is it? developmental? I hated that class because of the teacher. Don't give up...I am having a hard time too, but I have paid too much money to just give up.

Update: Here is what happened this week....

My clinical day is every Wednesday. I have a different clinical instructor from my class instructor and she knows my family very well. I called her and left a message, and she called me back Tuesday night and I told her what happened, and I just about couldn't get the tears to stop...I thought I had cried everything out.

She told me if I wasn't up to going to clinical (and I really, really wasn't b/c I knew everyone would be talking about the test...and I just want to point out, that I have never been late to class, missed a class or a clinical the entire time I have been in the program)...she told me I was welcome to stay home, that she was scheduling a makeup day anyway, and I could make it up then and not to worry about it.

I really needed that day to clear my head.

I went to my night class on Wednesday evening and I went to nursing class on Thursday. I did discover several other classmates did just as bad as I did, however, overall the grades were better for the class as a whole than on the last exam.

I went to the instructor and she told me that this happens every year. She told me I was a concrete thinker which is why I did much better on the med/surg tests...which is what we have for the rest of the semester.

She said, "You do realize that your overall standing in the program for 2nd year students is in the top 5%, don't you?"

I said, "No, I didn't." I went on to explain that I wasn't sure how I was going to score high enough on the next few exams to pass.

She said, "Did you notice that a couple of your classmates are already gone? It's because they were advised to withdraw. If you needed to withdraw, we would tell you straight up. We know who is studying and who isn't. We know you are studying and that is why we are confident you can pass."

The Director was in the office with the instructor while she was telling me this.

So before I left, she laughed and said, "Don't make us find your house and drag you to class."

I said, "I won't. I promise"

They hired an educational specialist for our school and she did her first review today which was VERY helpful. It really helped me know where I am wasting my time and what to focus on...I get too caught up in the details.

Oh, and on a side note: During class a classmate ordered me a gift from the local bookstore and had it delivered to me. It was very, very sweet of her.

I'm glad that you talked to the right people and found out that you are doing better than you thought :). It's nice when classmates are there to lift you up when you feel you are faltering :flowersfo. Hang in there :anpom:!

Oh, wonderful news!

What great news! And I love the way you were essentially being told, "You've got it. We know you've got it. Now hang in there!". :)

Your post should be a sticky in this forum with a title like "To anyone who has ever been convinced they were about to fail out of nursing school."

Stay the course! :)
