I have been acceptied to both a AA and BSN program. I have to make a chocie if I want to be broke for 2 years or 3. and I need to make one fast!
Can you ever work in management with an AA? Will an AA hold you back in any way?

You can work some management jobs with an AA
You can also get your BSN in an RN to BSN program....
All sorts of options are possible...

Personally, I would go for 3 for a host of reasons if I was offered the choice but money is always a huge factor to consider.
I just dont want to put a huge strain on my family. My hubby has a good job, but our son goes to private school and I dont think I will be able to swing 3 years of private school if I am not working, but I can do 1 1/2

I was in your same situation. I chose the ASN option (18 months). Because i also need a job, i figure i can go back for the extra year and have my job pay for it. They will also help me to pay back my outstanding loan. Right my job doesnt pay for me to go to school. I also have 2 small children. I would rather get in out the way now before they are of school age. So it was either me paying for 18 months or 3 years. I dont want to have to take out another loan. But you have to do whats best for you.

Go for the BSN. Once you get out of school you may never go back.
Good luck.

Most places a BSN is four years so look at it this way- you are getting a free year, not adding one!! I would go for it and get the BSN!
It is an accelerated progam so it would only take me 3 becasue I have previous classes completed.

I'm facing the same decision. What you need to do is to look at the pros and cons of each option. Yes, getting my BSN right away would be great, but it would be a financial hardship for me. I would have to commute over 100 miles a day, and I would really have to shave my work hours. Unfortunately, I must work while I go to school as I am on my own and if I want a roof over my head and other basic needs, I have no choice. The ADN program is within 5 miles of where I live. This program starts the same time (May 2006), but I will be finished in about 16 months. Also, it is a sponsored position in which the hospital will pay for my tuition, books, fees, etc. I'll have to work for them for two years unless I buy out my contract (the only con).
Only you can decide what is best for you. Yes, going for the BSN right away would be great, but if getting your ADN first makes your life less complicated, why not?
Just my $.02.

As a mom, my first reaction to your dilemma is put your sons education first. But see if there really is a way to go for the BSN. My husband and I have made alot of changes so I can stay at home with our baby till I enter a program in 07' (hopefully). Something else to consider is that because it is an accelerated program, does that mean more hours of the day commited to class and clinicals? That would be time away from your family and extra stress on you. You are young so you can always go back for a BSN later and let someone else pay for it. I hope you and your husband can come up with a solution that best fits your familiy's needs. :wink2:
