How many student nurses have clinical rotations in a school nurse office with direct care/interaction with the student population? I've never seen a board of education approve an agreement with a nursing school to have student nurses with direct student interaction. Graduate or Post-BSN school nurse certification candidates yes but not entry level.I ask because I can't understand how the original post was so misinterpreted as being a novice student nurse rather than seasoned licensed school nurse caring for an elementary student.
I also precept several BSN senior nursing students in my clinic every semester. They are taking a community nursing course and get placed in various community agencies and often schools are their longest rotation. I usually have each student for at least 6 weeks. I did the same thing as a senior nursing student which is where I fell in love with school nursing and was ridiculed by my classmates for it!
Nearly got nailed today! A frequent flyer, very quiet student, leans in close to talk . . . nauseated . . . every time she leaned in to whisper to me I thought PLEASE DON'T PUKE.
Well after about 10 minutes and 2 cups of water, suddenly it's projectile vomit all over herself and the clinic - but thankfully NOT on me or the student nurse who was visiting today!!

I am actually precepting a nursing student who not an RN yet. When I was in nursing school, several of my classmates did their community clinical rotation one-on-one with a school nurse. I wish I had, I may have discovered my calling sooner! :)
OP, yuck! I have cleaned up a lot of puke. I also volunteer to help out with our school play and this year during tech week and the two performances, there was a stomach bug running rampant. I cleaned up the chunkiest puke I'd ever witnessed after just barely jumping out of the way of the student spewing it. Then I cleaned up additional puke 3 more times as there was no janitor backstage...
But I laugh about it now. After all, if we couldn't stand, we all picked the wrong profession, right?
