well sweetheart welcome to the life of being a nursing student. Nursing school teaches you how to cope with things when you become and RN and how to handle situations. You do know that nurses encounter patients everyday who wet the bed, poop their undies, and puke their brains out. Feces and urine don't bother nurses, they clean it up :) You will encounter bodily fluids too when you are a nurse aka blood. I know the smell and sight of puke poop etc. might be nauseating but that's what nurses will face in their job. I'm sure she didn't mean to vomit all over you, it was an accident :) one time when I was at my job I ended up throwing up everywhere on the floor, I work in a nursing home and for my position I was all alone, and I actually had to clean up my own puke. it wasn't lovely but I had to do it.

Um, just so you know and to give you a chance to possibly edit your post if you feel so inclined, I believe the OP is actually already a nurse....a school nurse, judging by the forum in which the post is located. It was a school student who vomited....as a school nurse she is probably pretty well versed....since many have to have considerable experience prior to working in that role.

OP is an experienced licensed nurse who happens to be a credentialed school nurse. School nurses refers to licensed nurses working in a preschool, elementary, middle or high school setting. I think the OP is very aware of what is faced in the job of a school nurse. This was not a complaint but a humorous post with like minded colleagues aka ninja nurses. Fortunately most students are healthy.

Thanks for your insight, amb_ram25. Please, next time look at the forum in which you are posting, m'kay sweetheart?

Hi! yup I am a seasoned nurse and seasoned school nurse,,apparently not seasoned in NINJA NURSING... need to learn how to "move like Jagger"!!

The one good part about it was that it did keep out certain teachers who feel like need to diagnose each kid they send down. They kept out due to the vomit all over the place LOL

Well, Sweetheart, after 16 years of nursing experience it sure is good to be forewarned about what we might get into as nurses. Thanks for the warnings!

I apologize about the misunderstanding that she was asking on the forum, I thought that she was a student in nursing school from how she worded it. I really appreciate your inconsiderate remark, I will remember next time not to comment on anything on here since everyone is judgmental. I honestly thought she was a nursing student so that's why I said what I said! JEEZ!

Actually I believe if you hadn't been so quick to judge the OP and post a condescending remark you would not have received comments that you feel are not nice. In fact I think the responses you got were quite tame for what you could have gotten after the tone you set with your post. So go back and read what you originally wrote maybe you did not intend for it to be nasty and judgmental but it was.

I see you are new to allnurses. If you had taken the time to note which forum you are on- "School Nurses"- and read the OP with that frame of mind, you would have realized that the post was about a student who vomited all over her school nurse (ew!).

Most of us who post on this forum are nurses with years of experience under our belts from many different specialties. I know I was rolling my eyes as soon as I read the first sentence of your post. If someone addresses me with the words "Well, sweetheart..." no matter what the subject, I am going to feel like I am being talked down to. Even if I am a green, newbie nursing student. Which I am not.

If you would like to continue to use your condescending tone of posting to actual nursing students (which I don't recommend, BTW, because hey, we were all students once), there is a WHOLE separate section of allnurses dedicated to nursing students called "Students" listed at the top of the screen on the yellow stripe.

amb_ram25, Sweetheart, I realize you're new to this message board, but you'll learn quickly to knock off the attitude. It provokes people. By the way, as a seasoned school site nurse, I have been known to eat my yogurt while my coworker is suctioning a trach.

How many student nurses have clinical rotations in a school nurse office with direct care/interaction with the student population? I've never seen a board of education approve an agreement with a nursing school to have student nurses with direct student interaction. Graduate or Post-BSN school nurse certification candidates yes but not entry level.

I ask because I can't understand how the original post was so misinterpreted as being a novice student nurse rather than seasoned licensed school nurse caring for an elementary student.

The first time I got christened at a school site was via g-tube after she told me she felt like throwing up, but couldn't (fundo surgery). I seriously had no idea that someone could barf through their g-tube, extender and 60ml base attached. She thought it was hilarious.
