A classmate of mine is a heavy cannabis user. To the point where he has not even applied for any positions yet because he is certain that his pre-screening drug test will come back positive. He says that he just has to stay clean long enough to pass the drug screening because "hospitals hardly ever drug tests to nurses."
How true is this? How often are nurses screened at YOUR facility? I was going to ask my preceptor, but I think me asking will look weird..
I not a fan of weed, But it is interesting the USA allows alcohol to be sold, not weed.I guess we not really living in the land of the free, I think some Middle Eastern countries also outlaw alcohol and women being in public without a escort, etc.........
You don't know much American history, do you?
America tried to outlaw the sale and use of alcohol. It was called Prohibition. All it did was create a very large and lucrative black market for the product.
Alcohol may be legal, but I don't know any employers who would allow their employees to work while under the influence. Your logic is incredibly flawed.
Also, your comparison to Middle East practices is simply ludicrous. What US state prohibits women from being out in public without an escort?
Seriously, you really should think things through a bit more before you risk embarrassing yourself.
I am also surprised that your nursing program didn't require a drug screening for clinicals. We certainly had to get one... and pay good money for it!
I have been drug screened for every job I've had as a nurse. CNA, as well. I have never heard of one of my coworkers getting randomly screened but we never had a problem with narcotic diversions or people showing up to work and acting funny. Then again, I worked night shift so everyone was a little wacky. But all of my RN jobs had impairment policies where we could be randomly tested in either of those situations.
If your friend does indeed plan on quitting long enough to pass a tox screen, he may be waiting a very long time. If he is as heavy a user as you say, it could take quite a long time for him to pass a drug test. And there's no way to predict how long it will take for him to show up clean.

This post makes no sense. And is illogical, to boot.
Are you really comparing the illegality of marijuana to Sharia law?
College dorms, sure. Hospitals and other professional settings, not so much ...
Ok, this just made me facepalm.
Number 1: Joke, mild attempt at a bit of levity.
Number 2: Did I ever imply in that one question that it was being used in hospitals and other professional settings??
Let's get a few things clear. I endorse the use of medical marijuana, albeit for fewer conditions than seem to be allowed.
It is still illegal at the Federal level, so no hospital or facility is going to hire someone who tests positive. Anyone who thinks they're immune from random testing and still tokes up on a regular basis is an idiot, pure and simple, and deserves whatever consequences they bring down upon themselves.

I'm sorry -- I got the humor, and was trying to joke back in the same tone. It's a shame that turns out badly so often in print ... :)
Then what was that smell permeating my dorm in the early 70s??
"Everyone is doing it" is a tired old phrase that's not now, nor has ever been true. I grew up in the 70's. Not everyone smoked pot, not by a long shot, which is NOT the same thing as saying no one did or even that not a lot of folks did. But everyone? Not even close.
ETA: the one exception might be CU Boulder. I'll give you that one.

Ok, that does it for me trying to display any form of humor in here.
Yes, I was being a bit of a smart ass. No, I didn't think "everyone is doing it". My one sentence stab at a joke never implied that.
I'm just going to delete the app for a few days. I have drama going on with my job. Let me deal with that and perhaps I can deal with the drama in here.

I guess you didn't see that I made a joke as well. Maybe if that inspires this much rage a break is in order. Sorry to offend, and I'll extend that to any CU Boulder grads as well.
